I own a generation 1 monocular(low quality). More of a gimic than actually usefull. They work well out to 50metres but beyond can be difficult to spot any type of game. You must pay the big bucks for anything beyond that range. I found that a foxes eye will be visible though the monocular due to the infared spotlight shining on them. Again the monoculars infared spotlight is quite small and i know you can buy big infared spotlights. This may help. I found that if there was any city lights, even the glare from them shining over a hill, that this makes the monocular useless. Best results i get are in very dark areas with no moonlight. Another problem is i cant mount mine to my rifle scope, which means i still must bring a normal spotlight. Im sure $1000+ can get better results, but again is it really nessasary. They are great for spotting possums around your campsite if you walk well away from the fire. Nice to have, but not as great as i thought it would be.
