  1. GarminGPSmap60csx. Great value for money and loads of easy to use features. Cheers.
  2. +1 for Tramontina knives. Hold a nice edge and easy to sharpen. Cheers.
  3. Picked it up for 500 from the LGS but was in town today and saw one at King of Knives for 800!!! Shop around if you're looking for one that's for sure. Cheers.
  4. Picked up an X21 yesterday at the LGS and all I can say is Holy Cr@p! What an awesome bit of gear. Had a play with it last night and it clearly illuminated the top of the local water tower where I live. Got the 223 out of the gunsafe and cranked the scope up to 10 power and could clearly make out the handrails at the top of the tower. I got the rangefinder out this morning and ranged it at 356 yards. I reckon it's got to be close to the ultimate walkaround spotlight in conjunction with a scope mounted led torch. Cheers.

    Havalon Knives

Thanks for the positive feedback fellas. Ordered the Piranta edge with blaze orange handles and a pouch this morning. Think I'll do a Drew and look on e-bay for replacement blades from the U.S. Optic I believe that the #22 blades are a tad shorter than the #60xt blades. Cheers.

    Havalon Knives

Just wondering if anyone here has used the Havalon knives at all and what were their opinions. Interested in getting one for skinning and caping and quite like the idea of the replaceable blade system. Cheers.
  7. I bought one of those for the missus a couple of years ago and it's proven to be a very reliable, robust little unit. Agree with what jindydiver said though. Take the time to get used to it and learn all the features because as mentioned you don't want to be doing it when circumstances are against you. Oh yeah always carry at least one, preferably two sets of spare batteries for it on you at all times. Cheers.
  8. Harty, the electronic Peltors are probably the pick of hearing protection. The ones that Jock posted are also reasonably effective at blocking the noise out. You could also go the whole hog and get custom made earplugs like Sonomax but the main thing to remember is to have something and remember to use it. Damage to your ears is cumulative and irreversable so whenever possible use hearing protection. I didn't for many years of operating heavy machinery and shooting and believe me on one thing TINNITUS IS NO BLOODY FUN and nor is borderline deafness (except when the missus asks me to do something ) If you don"t know what tinnitus is it's a constant ringing sound in your ears just like the temporay ringing you've experienced but it NEVER goes away. It's a bit like overexposure to the sun; by the time you notice it's too late. Cheers.
  9. +1 Jock. Had one of those for a while now and find them an excellent bit of kit especially if your on your own. Cheers.
  10. Pretty much a standard way that most Australian business seems to be run lately. I remember a couple of years ago I had about 12 grand to spend on HF radios for comms in remote areas. Contacted 12 retailers/suppliers Australia wide by phone and e-mail and didn't get one reply! Ended up getting what I wanted direct from the manufacturer and they were a pleasure to deal with and provided excellent back-up service for a faulty mic. Seems to be a common theme these days that once a retailer gets your money it's a case of 'screw you pal, I've got your money'. Great way to run a business isn't it? Good luck with your spottie Kilroy and I hope you (eventually) get it. Let us know how it performs cause I'm pretty interested to get one myself. Cheers.
  11. I use them in mine Bear with no worries. They don't last as long as alkalines but they're handy for an overnighter. Don't know if they would last for a nights spotlighting rabbits though you might get lucky running the 2700 milliamp ones. Cheers
  12. Just wondering if anyone here has tried the HID conversion kits for Lightforce handheld spotlights and if so what did you think of them? Thinking of upgrading the sl170. Cheers.
  13. Another vote here for the Garmin 60csx Jock. Mine's been dropped in water and run over and still keeps ticking. Good battery life too and an easy to use menu for electronic neanderthals such as myself. Cheers.
  14. We get issued pelican headlamps at work and they're pretty good bits if kit but lack a beam that can be focused. My personal one is the led lenser and it's great. One of my mates has got a petzl and he swears by it. Good ones aren't cheap but nothing good in life is. Cheers.
  15. I've got the 10 gun Buffalo river but not the silver series. Good bit of kit. No complaints here. Cheers.
