  1. I just use a Vitronix fixed blade job (same as what butchers use) I've got all sorts of folders etc but none of em get used anymore since I bought this one.
  2. I used both Halogen and HID a while back and I reckon the QH was better in a lot of ways, the beam on the HID was narrower, eyes were hard to see with it as it was too bright and tracking stuff (bunnies in this instance) was harder because of the lack of spill as it were.
  3. I bought a pair of 2nd hand 10x42 bino's (Andrews brand) for $40 and I've got to say for the $$ I'm very impressed, whilst they don't have the sharpness of the better quality stuff they are certainly very usable for my needs (whisting foxes and popping bunnies). I tested them out the other day and saw a fox at over 800m running along a fenceline and watched a few others come in at around 350m before being shot.
  4. Lovely Geoff, where do you buy all the components from mate?
  5. I can't believe you fella's skin ya bunnies - all ya have to do is cut their feet off with seceteurs, put a nic in the skin along the backbone and pull em apart, takes seconds to do then just lop the head off - then just gut em (which is just a slit then flick type deal).
  6. I'm using a boning knife myself for foxes, rabbits I just peel em and cut their head and feet of with garden shears, then run a blade up em to drop the gut contents. (Mines a $20 job from the local butchers).

Yeah I reckon that's the way to go mate, I can handle muffing a cheapy but something that cost a good whack, well I'd be real ticked at myself if I muffed that one! Any tips and tricks one has to know about the knife making caper?

Thanks for that Geoff, I will have a look into that in the new year! looks like a great place to start with the knife making experience.

Beautiful Job Geoff, I take it mines in the post? So where did you source the blade and scales etc from mate, I wouldn't mind having a crack at making one myself.
  12. I've got the Vortex 1000 Rangefinder, good little bit of kit, I've ranged cows out to 500 odd mtrs so far, I use mine for ranging bunnies and for foxes but what I really like using it for is to look at something and guess the distance then range it and see how close I was - FMD my guestimations are way out! LOL but I am getting be as a result of doing this. The other great thing about the Vortex Rangefinder is it has a Lifetime No Fault Warranty! that's a lifetime of use without ever having to fork out $$$ to replace it if it dies! What a bargain!!!
  13. Josh - what mating calls are you using mate? I reckon some sort of fox on heat type one would work well at this time of year. Do they have anything like that in the Fox Pro Sound Library or is this one from somewhere else? Cheers mate
  14. Fair enough mate if your happy with it - stick with it, me I couldn't be stuffed mucking around doing all that, I need something that is portable and easy to put in my pack, as for the features the Fox Pro has - well there's isn't anything on the market today that even comes close. I've seen em in action and I can tell you they definitely work and work very well. Good luck with yours mate, I hope it works out ok for you - I guess if she doesn't you can always go the Fox Pro.
  15. I just ordered one of the Fox Pro Shockwaves - awesome bit of kit, can't wait to get it into action.
