  1. I have 1200l for our bigger trips. Yes the amount of zeros are correct. I also have a 650l for the smaller trips. Brett
  2. Hello all. I give this bloke in town a bit of venison from time to time. I also give him a few fallow casts as I know he mucks around making a few knifes. Last week he turns up at home with this gift. A skinning knife design made out of one of my casts and a concrete cutting blade. Hopefully I'll try it out in a few weekends. Brett
  3. Thanks Gents for the replies, I've been doing some online research and think I may have decided on an outcome. I don't think I can go past the halogen Lightforce. Given the flogging I've given it - it's probably worth getting a second one. But I think I'm going to look at one of those Ebay LED jobs as well - just a cheaper version and see how it goes. If I blow $100, I blow a $100. Considering how much other money I spend on this sport $100 doesn't really put a dent in it really. Anyone know of any Lightforce 240 Blitz deals around at the moment? Brett
  4. Gents, After a number of rebuilds and work arounds the Lightforce 240 Blitz has gone to hunting heaven and I need a replacement. Mine was the old halogen bulb but I'm thinking I should upgrade to LED. I bought some twin cousins a Lightforce 240 Blitz upgraded to HID for their birthday a few years ago. They feel it could be too bright and on some occasions have had to put it away or shine partial light on the animal to keep it still. So I'm up for recommendations of what people like and don't like and I'm also interested to see if there's any local specials out in your neck of the woods that I might be able to get on to. I haven't found many great deals myself at the moment. Thanks in advance. Brett
  5. Thanks for the replies gents, I've decided to buy them one of each. That way they can swap when they want in close or long distance. It will also finally give me the chance to test out the two side by side. Brett
  6. Gents, I was lucky enough to pick up a few of the Aldi trailcams. Just a question - what setting do you use to take the pictures. I've been playing with mine and there seems to be a delay between sensing the motion and taking the picture. I'm using 30secs apart but end up missing myself when I walk back and forwards in front of the unit. I'm assuming that they're not designed to take instantaneous pictures of quick moving objects. I haven't tried it outside yet. On another note a mate purchased the ones from last year and his advise was to build them a weather shield as they don't like a lot of rain. I've made some simple ones out of plastic flower pots and ice cream buckets. Brett
  7. Gents, I have enjoyed a Lightforce 240blitz in halogen for around 10 years. Perfect and never had any issues. I want to buy two new spotlights for my cousins twins for their 21st birthday next month. Last time I went with them they had a HID in another brand. I didn't like it at all. The centre of the light was a rectangle shape. The light was white and I found in more difficult to pick up game - in particular eyes. I haven't used a Lightforce in HID and was hoping someone could give me a true PRACTICAL review of the two lights. I want to buy Lightforce and its a matter of HID or not. Can you give me some thoughts please. Brett
  8. Thanks to everyone for your replies, especially Len with the good oil on travelling O/S to NZ. I managed to get up to Brissy on the weekend and went to the LGS to look over the field. While the shop assistant was trying to sell me a pelican case ($500) I settled on a double winchester at $195. I don't think I'll fly that much so the pelican was just a bit over the top even though I know it will last a lifetime. It seems my hectic couple of weeks of organisation has been done, Customs forms done and cleared, passport done and police import form done. Airline regs checked (gun in hard case, bolt stowed in main luggage, bullets in lock up case in luggage) all we need is the roar to begin - which I did hear over the weekend has started to happen. Probably the only thing I'm lacking is fitness - which is where the helicopter should come in. Thanks again Brett
  9. Thanks Len, A quick question for you. I'm guessing you have to remove the bolt - as per standard law - where does this go in transit? And I've specified that I want to take Ammo so where does that go - in another separate box - does that make three boxes? Brett
  10. Yeah Jock, Thought the same thing this arvo so rang QLD Gun Exchange. They had 3 types in stock but were unsure what met Airline rules. Anyone know if there is such a thing as Airline rules? Brett
  11. Gents, I've had a last minute NZ hunting trip thrown at me and I need a flightproof lock-up case (all mine are soft). Fly out on April 2 and can't get to the LGS (in Brissy) until the week before. Anyone had any experience with good mail order or ebay equipment which could do the job. I'm taking a Weatherby Vanguard in .270 with scope etc. For those interested where heading to the Marlborough (sp) area on the South Island. We're going with the local helicopter charter pilot (he's hunting) so we're only paying for av gas nothing else. Can't pass it up. Brett
  12. Thanks Fireman and Xavie, I had thought about a palm or actually an I phone but like Fireman noted - I was worried about it's ruggedness thrown around in the car and in the bush. My old GPS 12 would chew batteries and it was one definitely a factor when it came to loooking around this time. I guess I don't really need the maps - but they would be handy. I can just plot waypoints from maps into the GPS and use it as a guide. Even with the little Aussie peso sliding in recent weeks - it still looks like buying overseas is the best option. Brett
  13. Gents, I've had numerous GPS units in my time - mostly for the boat but I've also once had a Garmin GPS 12 XL which was excellent for the first little handhelds that came out. After getting a touch disoriented on a western QLD trip recently I'm chasing a new handhand - preferable one that can download maps - like those from google maps/earth or the NSW Game council State Forests. Anyone using one they like? Brett
  14. GDay I'm Brett, I'm a recent addition to New South Wales having just moved to Murwillumbah in the Nth East from the beautiful cold climes of Tassie. I'm in the loooooong process of changing over my license and weapons registrations but am hopeful to continue my recreational hunting up this way. Just recently I got into deer shooting in Tassie and loved it. Hoping to find a few up this way and have had a look at the R - license system already - seems that is what I need. If there is anyone else up in the Murwillumbah region keen on a hunt let me know or maybe there's people out there that have some knowledge of some good local hunting clubs then I'd like to know also. Regards Brett
