  1. slow with water for cooling if you haven't got a wet wheel is the way to go, if steel is heated it's not the end, you'd just have to heat it, quench it and then temper it again. Go on youtube there's lots of videos of the right colour heat to temper steel . I am not an expert but still managed to bring a few knives back to life including a very thick stainless pig sticker.
  2. don't know what brand mine is will check it out when i unpack things but does work quite well, might be a psychological thing too at it feels great and of course keeps the bag clean. I like the cold weather but do get very cold and i'm a cold sleeper so any help to make things warmer is appreciated.
  3. problem with lightweight hiking packs is the fabric is too light for going through scrub, i have an osprey aether 85 as a general purpose pack. When hunting and need to carry out meat i take my old Badlands 2200 ? can't remember model it is very large and tough, only problem is i think it is made for larger frame blokes, which i'm not, when that expires i'll go for a moroka pack
  4. i thought i'll update, i ended up buying a Swarovski el range 10x42 and WOW what a difference!! At a rise where i used to struggle to pick a deer standing still at 600+ meters i now can pick them at 900+ the clarity is amazing and the ranging is better than my leupold rangefinder and much easier to hold still. Almost bought a set of Leicas second hand but decided on the swaros and i'm happy i did, the Leicas have slightly better glass and better ballistic options in the software.
  5. osprey aether 85, not a hunting pack but a good general purpose one, front pockets are handy and very comfortable. Have a badlands 4500, don't use it anymore, good strong pack but couldn't get it to fit my small body too well.
  6. at one point was considering 10x32 for the more compact aspect but if you compare the twilight factor they miss out on a fair bit to the 40's on the most important times for hunting (on some areas)
  7. Vanguard ed 10x42 in a Badlands bino case bag with magnetic lid, best thing i ever got, my UHF and rangefinder fits in there as well. When i can afford them i will get a pair of Zeiss Victory SF's 10x40
  8. Thank you for posting all of the above as it interests me not just because of the pleasant customer service this guy provides but also because you have given me an insight into alternative choices of quality binoculars.
  9. Yeah the problem with my waterproof dacks is that they tend to keep the wind in
  10. i use the torrent in olive colour so i can wear it when traveling as well but really wanted the roar for cold wet weather, i do have a light weight camo waterproof jacket for when it isn't too cold. The roar 11 is good too.
  11. yeah they do have some good gear, but I still feel I don't belong there. Hope to see you at the Gattta in your anaconda stuff
  12. Kikka you walked into an anaconda store????? LOL Your hunter cred just dropped down off the scale. The only reason I'd go there would be to watch their faces when I tell them I'm a hunter.
  13. Hi, name is Ant, stopped shooting back in '96 started again last couple of months, did not know there was an Aussie forum, nice place!!
