  1. looks like might of found a SX60 for good Dollar... $350 , thoughts? about $500 new yeah?
  2. Fellas, Currently got a SX170 Canon digital cam, need to replace ,.... ideally the best is SX60 Canons, but does anyone have any experience with SX10 and SX20, 30,40 , or other models of Canon under the SX60? thanks
  3. The V is the go... 4.5+ m , 25-30 hp.. good start, anything bigger into half cab fibreglass class a bonus for taking luxuries...
  4. 20hp gets me there in a 3.7m basic tinny... not ideal with two blokes gear but for solo in good weather its fine. If the waves pick up its best to leave it tied up at camp an wait for a oppertunity to get out. Few other members have bigger better explorer an stabicraft vessels which handle the big waters with ease. No real race to get in an out of these sorts of camps, allowance for bad weather should be taken into consideration . Certainly a race up the arms in the mornings on busy weekends
  5. Put my name on ya 15x s BT Mates rates when ya Finished lookin on the faaaar hills out yonder
  6. Almost More important than the Rifle IMO..certainly more important than a Scope and a Knife... 8x for bush hunters 10x for cross country And 12-15x for big country.
  7. hey man- pop down to your local gun store and check out their optics range- this will give you a clear idea of what you are dealing with as opposed to gettting maybe 4-9 different responses from Aus hunt............................................ all your typicals from Bushnell onwards- i think Bear Grylls bought out a pair of Binos which may be similiar to a bushnell trophy range if not a bushnell trophy range, then you start gettin into other brands like leupold , vortex leica and swarovski...... but thats budget to premium. i personally use a 10x42 Wedgetail 'Raptor' Binocular which iirc around 400 mark a while ago when the maroopa 40 was distributing them, i had some issues and had no cuatomer support from the australian branded brand. regardless- many shapes an weights of Binos, YMMV................ best to get a hold of a set an check through them.
  8. Great First Post- Something that doesnt happen too Often, a Bit like myself posting in the Newbies threads! However, with that Attitude , I really hope you find what You are looking for an that Aushunt can be the part of the puzzle you may be missing! Hope some Bow hunters can help you out. All the Best.
  9. not sure, my bag is kind of large so i roll it up an try compress it with rope , then still put the liner into the stuff sack, liner takes up next to no room.
  10. gday- a while ago i might of asked around in regards to the sleeping bag liners to boost a bag for additional warmth. prior to the gatta hunt, with intentions to pack out into the cold valleys, i set about researching the liners and in the end i purchased a thermolite reactor extreme bag liner...... i got to use it/test it out an my previously -2 rated bag, withstood the freezing temps to keep me well warm to sleep all night into the pre dawn glow. reviews were varied, some saying not worth it, some saying good but no +15 temp advantage/gain, an some loved theirs. some use the bag as a summer sleeping bag in tents,on hikes etc.... i coupled my liner inside the bag which is inside the gortx bivvy bag, got to say theres no cold slap to the face when ya first get in! warms upreally quick. id be confident in undertaking some winter back packing with this combo happy days! http://seatosummit.com/product/reactor-thermolite-mummy-liner/ WL
  11. most of us are true sambar hunters , so our gear reflects this... alot of Us are using Black Wolf packs in 75lt but preferably 85ltr an keeping in mind most of us dont go for more than 3 days - i only just fit enough stuff in my kit in a 85 litre BW but thats proberly more due to the items i pack.. one thing though is 'Shanes' BW pack is a fair bit more updated than mine and it is a bit more hunter friendly.... for sure. there is no doubt, better bigger badder more expensive packs out there for the hardcore crew
  12. Oi thats not real good then
  13. buy a slab of it, use a texta then use a sharp blade. cut out custom foam rifle case inner foam Clark Rubber of course
  14. I'm talking to $32 Ebay Jobs, not the $150 magazine jobs...
  15. No one uses Binos without Harness's anymore ,
  16. Interesting post and comments You see things differently to me, that's for sure..... if I were going to do something along these lines, $1500 + $500 ... = 2k ish, I would have New Binos and 3 scopes for 3 other rifles, Not sure Who would see and shoot more Deer though at the end of the day... Scopes V Binos is a moot point, Don't look after either, don't expect either to last, look after them I don't see why you wouldn't have Both for just as long as each other.. mechanical failures do happen but generally after a thud is heard on ground. I do agree with what you're saying though, Good Binos and a Better Scope..... yeh sweet cool, Also I understand what you're Saying about how Other Hunters do look into the more Advertised "better" product as some do have a few extra cookies in the jar... it IS NOT needed in any shape or form, if someone thinks they can see a Deer easier/Better with a set of Liecas or Swarovski goggles over a "Budget Class" Bushnell/Vortex/Leupold Set of Binoculars, then They are indeed the purpose that there is Magazines out on the shelves........... Some unfortunaly don't fit in the Gang without all the Speccy brand stuff, you would understand that.. trends come and go, so does a lot of peoples money...
  17. I still have to Disagree fully on your last statement though. Any half assed hunter these days knows how important Good Glass is and Enough of it.. I still think Anyones First Set of Binos should be 10x in a budget the can afford, for me this is around $300-400 mark which Leaves ALOT of good optics in that Class, All of which carry the Traits you desire, Light weight (majority all weigh the same- as all made with similar structure) , Field of view will vary as it does with Scopes EG my Burris is VERY tight FOV Compared to a LEupold VX2 , the Zeiss Terra is also tight, So they are generally Carried on 4-6 somewhere........ But we are not talking about Scopes , We are talking about the tool that is used to Find/Varify your Target before the Rifle gets picked up, in that case the Target is already identified , so the shooter has approx. 98.7% idea of where the Target is, having a correct fit Rifle/Scope combo will allow the rifle to be bought up with the Barrel pointing toward the Target, Because you are Ready to shoot it, Not have a look at potential through the scope, Rifle up is the Last hoorah before the Deed is done... My Cuzin had a bloke stick a rifle up as he had no binos, when they met in the Bush...... he went off but i'd proberly just start throwin lefts and rights if someone does that to me and I see it.. So back to the story, We use binoculars to find the amimal or look over the animals infront of us, theres a few catorgories for a hunter to think about .. is he Scanning as he stalks? Is he Glassing across gulleys and moving further up the field as he goes? is he strictly sitting and waiting for animals to pop out of a Fringe line? or is he Tight up in a Gulley 'Still' Hunting ? is he going to be doing ALL of the Above? PS- If a bloke hasn't got a variable scope ona Rifle an is chasing Sambar then hes limited and One would hope he has strategic plan in place or a particular strategy which allows the rifle/scope combo to be deemed useful... spook and shoot hunters wont use binos, cos the bugger is already runnin away, this is where he may want a RED DOT or 1-5x or 2-7x low scope power to catch up to that fleeing deer... with me? WL
  18. Frig, I totally thought we were discussing BINOs .................... I'm the most budget assed Sambar hunter in Australia, don't talk to me about savin a Dollar or should I say, ''bout not spending all yer Dollars"
  19. I got to Disagree to some degree, of course........ JMHO, x8s are For Bow hunting , and x10s are for Hunters who will cover many terrains from dense tight Bush right out into open Fringe country... I came to this conclusion when I was 16 or so and broke a pair of 8xs so went and got 10xs and the ability to See animals out Yonder was a lot easier with 10, not for determining trophy potential at 600m + but no problem picking up Deer and knowing if it had Horns or not, When sitting beside a mate with 8x there is quite a difference on every day hunting Faces at that 300-600m distance. I'm talking Sambars Legs , Backline , Neck/head shape or a moving Antler ....... Into the tight stuff, 10x are fine as you are pin pointing movement or scanning into bush looking for that Ear, Leg, Antler or slight movement, perhaps honing in on a sound... I don't think you would lose much with a 10x , but have the ability to look out Yonder, as this is where Binoculars are pretty handy, you let the eyes do the Walking for you...... talking about Walking though, if you were strictly hunting Sambar/Deer in thick thick Wonnangatta like country, perhaps the 8x might serve you better for some reason, like the Wide angle advantage when scanning ? 12x at best for Big country, 10x are General every day hunting and 8xs for Bowhunters or those worried about how much bulkier a 10x glass is though in hindsight , with a good harness system, 10x40s would be 100Grams heavier if that and no bulkier.. I know some people who Carry binos all day long, might look into them for a total of 30 minutes a day hunt.............. this is not what they are designed for. horses for courses though
  20. Fricken sweet brus!!! cut some tails off with that son of a bitch! WL
