  1. yeh I do in summer more so, with gaitors and shorts. depending on material of the thermals, some materials can keep warm next to skin while being wet, so you might get around a while on a wet set as above the weight is not draggin you down with cold water.. I see a few kiwis get off on the thermals an shorts, sometimes no shorts L O L , they push wet bush but admittedly they are 84% tougher minded and practical than Us. a extra set of thicker thermals for once the day is done, a quick towel up and a change of base layer can make the world seem a lot better place on the side of the hill.. this is what experiencing shit does, it helps you out in future.. an would perhaps answer 75% of your remaining questions... that is once you have Done a trip.... you know whats to be expected... keep it simple or do a reccy run in a bush, before your big ol backpack sambar deer hunt... I know its not COOL camping down the River/on a Hill/up the Farm with the Backpacking gear, next to a vehicle- or a short few hours walk away..... but that's called a "full dress rehersal" an a lot of the deer hunters don't do it. WL
  2. Yeahthe scope would hold the weight, my tikka is 3.3 .... kimber is 2.7 or so.. A vx2 2-7x33 is good or the new vxr? 2.5-8 x36 is the tits yeah... fairly light 500 grams i think IIRC
  3. looks pretty good man, will get you out of trouble and into the bush no doubt, a good basic starting kit. let us know the Numbers once you have weighed with Water and Food, you may be surprised.. depends on what ya eatin. snake kit- not much chop for april - September but very worthy item for the warmer months.... what rifle yer toting to be up in the mid weight class? Sub 3kg is light weights, 3-4 is middle weight an 4+ is not a backpacking rifle. WL
  4. Yeah just sit yer gun outside the tent so u can just open up an let rip Dont come near my tent at night if you stumble on my camp haha JK.
  5. look for basic blue tarp for $20 , same same, we have discussed before, how the 2 man tent is better for if shit weather encountered.. sideways rain etc no good for a fly.. tarp will roll up n tie onto your pack like the tent will.. no extra.
  6. Yeah mate, I do, another polar fleece jumper to keep DRY at all cost. and an extra pair of thermal top n bottoms. and extra socks. that will keep you warm enough next to a fire whilst drying out gear that may of got wet earlier in the day due to a rain shower or fall in a creek.. dry your other gear asap, preferably before dark.. going ultra light is another thing but for the 2-3-4 days you should get away with 23-24 kg so kind of depends if you are doing a mid winter break in the weather back pack for 2n 3 d, where u might need bit of food to keep warm, as opposed to a springy high country 3 dayer where u can get away with two dozen muesili bars ,,,
  7. Fantastic Offer, I cannot speak for Everyone, but this is why we try make the Effort on the AusHunt members gatherings (yes- not many happen outside of deer hunting in Victoria) but then we have first hand experience with Said member, or are aware of him, if something like this Pops up , it makes it Easier for others to say - Hey, I met XXTimXX at the Varmint shoot/Range day/ Fishing day that last month, I will put my hand up for this offer" etc Same goes when You offer a opportunity like this, You are reaching out to Strangers..... Had you of known 3-4-5- people previously off here, I'm sure they would be the First to get Asked. Just be Careful, people are quick to stab ya in the back , Very quick to exploit your access through their friends .... Most I have met here have been Great, Genuine and only a Couple havnt. ps- may get a better audience in a sub forum or general discussion Good luck, Great offer.. WL

  15. gday mate, heavy depends on you, around 20kg is plenty heavy enough for walking a long way. you got to ask if your going to be walking quite a distance for the one night, or might you end up doin 3 nights somewhere in near future, Also are you up above water, or on the water flats, near by is enough to save you KGs in carrying in.. if the water is uncertain then you will be wanting to take 3-4kg of water for a few days + cooking.. One nighter you get away with having Bugger all food... cos you will have a reserve tank at the Car full of food when you return.. a Couple nights an away from a quick retreat you will want to pack more decent food, so the KGs start adding up once you go beyond One nighters. Tents... research some google info, a lot of good stuff out there from people who have done it an give their opinion too.... I don't hike out in Snow /Blizzard conditions on purpose, I'm not normally near the snow level in winter and my Sleeping bag and 3 season Tent reflect this.. If it happens to piss down they are good for a fair while an fair amount of rain, if its torrential just walk home.. in aid of a 3 season Bag I use a Goretex paddy polin Bivvy bag / bag cover whatever... gives an extra few degrees warmth inside.. I take a Blue tarp for under the tent if its a bit rough... if up in snow grass or good cover the tarp can come from under an be used over as a 'fly'... just good to have WL

  19. HS, those studs n shit are ok, just gota sus em now n then, but im always lookin at my rifle when stalkin slow, or sitting, one of my twisty bits broke off so can be depressed at any time, no dramas yet... they have to be wound out pretty far to allow the pin to come free.
  20. Gday mate, I have the Older stock Black Wolf MTN Ash, its a 85 LTR... I think they Dropped it for the 75lt , I got it last year.. anyway I rekon its just enough for few days an extra things, i'd rekon to get as many ltr as ya can, ,especially for extended trips. it could be that my Exped matress LW is bit big, albeit comfy as hell... but taking up too much room in my pack. definalty is a good thing though. fully adjustable harness / straps WL
