Rifletuner, you say you were a bit disappointed with the luminosity of the handle on that knife. Is it supposed to be luminous all the time, or is it only as luminous as the "charge" that is applied to it? Do you think there is too much happening with the other ingredients in the material?

I like the clean, simple and fairly basic design in a practical shape, should be nice to use. Nice work.

Yeh OK, I didn't realize there were mount holes on the side. When you turn it 90 deg does the displayed image turn back and display the image vertically, or can it be corrected on your phone/tablet. So assuming you get the image vertical then, The genuine would be your best bet, especially if it has a picatinny on it, do you know who the Aussie importer/distributor is. But you will probably have to jigger something up yourself, shouldn't be too hard. If you was to make an angle bracket or mount to pick up them 3 holes in the pic then put a rail on it. Just need a quick release clamp to grab the picatinny. The just bolt the base onto your aluminium plate. It has a push button safety release to save the thermal falling off if the clamp happens to work loose. Good luck with it.

Mate, what do you want to do with it, the 90 deg is confusing? Mount it on a remote control unit? Mount it beside or above a spotlight on a remote control unit? The majority of handheld monoculars when used on a remote are mounted with the single screw through the pic rail into the tripod mount (1/4 x 20). Then either out the side or above the light on a home made bracket or a commercially made product. Smartrest have a range of cheaper accessories for this.

Thats looks great Rifletuner, he should treasure that. Would look good sitting alongside a beer mug and a magazine. Especially when they are a bit dirty and showing signs of plenty of use.

You after a torch or a spotlight? I don't do much shooting/hunting on foot of a night, but when I do, it is with a couple of small led torches that run on 1 x 18650 rechargeable battery. One is equipped with a mount that clamps to a picatinny rail on top of a scope, the other has a lanyard to hang around my neck and get dropped into a pocket when using the rifle as I am always going solo.

I hope it suits your needs Foxstalker and you get plenty of use from it. But what is a hunting knife? I thought hunting knives were just a phrase used by the media for all knives that are used by criminals to go about their illegal pursuits, to the detriment of those that go hunting. I think knives are better described as camp, skinning, boning ,filleting, sticking etc.

I have a 650, had it for over 11 years. Colour screen and run topo maps fine. Connects with other rino units and you can text message other units to cut out noise with talking. I haven't looked at the newer units so can't say if they are similar. Maybe look at second hand units?

Alex84, What they said. We started with a 60lt ice box, which was higher than length and width. We used a 10 ltr spring water bottle (squarer,flatter sided the better) that was filled 1ltr a day and frozen each time, which stops the sides bulging. We take frozen casseroles/stews in used chinese take-away containers. Meat is cryovaced and shaped into flat packs and frozen individually. The idea is to get all of the frozen stuff as low as possible with as little air space as possible, so every time you open the esky the air rushing in doesn't get to the bottom and need re-cooling. Prepare your ice now, the longer it is frozen, the longer it lasts. We place the esky on the ground as it is cold and put other stuff around it to reduce any air movement. As others have said with drinks, or put in a mesh bag and dropped in the creek. Good food preparation should see you through the week, so you have more time to enjoy your stay, or deal with other issues like weather or mechanical etc. But you will be in good hands in the group.

Maybe not what you were expecting Geoff but, Here is my knife that I use the most in the field. I take it on all of my hunts except the few times I have hunted sambar.I bought it new in about 1981 or 2. I have left it behind on a hunt twice and have not known till I was at home and looking for it to sharpen. The next hunt to each area gave me the opportunity to get it back as I knew where I last used it. It may not be the best bit of steel but it is easy to sharpen and didn't cost an arm or a leg. Hi All, I am a keen hunter who has been at it for nearly 50 years,and still keen.I love to bust foxees with a shot gun over some good j.r. terriers. But not shy of zapping them with a 17.
