  1. +1 on the Inmarsat. Got mine through my brother who used to run some yacht deliveries. Wouldnt want to use it all the time, but bloody handy when you need it. Cost is prohibitive to run it year round though. The mob I run it through GDMAS in Fremantle are good blokes though, I send the phone over to them once every 3 years and they give it a once over, load up credit for VIC winter, upload latest firmware and only charge for the credit. Will keep looking for more cost effective alternatives though. Cheers Tim
  2. Your work bench is a bloody pig sty. The tenon saw is hanging off centre. Do you have any idea what that can do to the blade??? Have you swapped from Nissan back to Toyota???
  3. Good stuff mate. I lost an eye cap on a hunt a while back and now keep a few spares in my pack courtesy of Steiner.
  4. I was rethreading the laces on my boots the other day and on the blower to Joe. I was having trouble pushing the frayed laces through the holes and thought that a bit of heat shrink should preserve the lace ends. Turns out it works a treat. I'll post a pic at some point.
  5. Meindl are the go for me. The sole is a bit rigid which makes stalking noisy if you re not sure footed. But after a season or two they're like putting on slippers. Waterproof slippers.
  6. Thanks tipy, I have one of those too. I'm looking for more a shell style jacket. Cheers mate
  7. Gday gents just after some ideas on waterproof jackets for hunting. Not interested in heavy and bulky stuff. Did have a stoney creek that was ok but lost it and now need a good replacement. Thanks fellas.
  8. I use the hunters element 'terrace' for day trips. I have samhunts pack and will take it away for gatta. If I get a chance to use it I'll let u know how it all goes. I used to head out for a morning with pack and all the bits. Now I just carry basics and no pack. Hydrate before hunt.
  9. I just hand wash my hunting clothes in cold water about once a year. Take off or conceal anything that reflects light. Trip just gone I miss placed my wedding ring. Whoops. Funny how keen your hearing becomes when you take it off too!
  10. Saw optic doing some pretty handy work on a deer a few months back, and bought one straight away. Awesome wee blade.
  11. 10x 42 Steiner hunter for me. I do find them a bit bulky when stalking in close stuff as I tend to hold the rifle across my upper body, which means the binos get pushed aside. But in low light and long range they are the goods.
  12. I have to post a couple, and I know this goes against what you asked for but I don't care. I haven't used Optics knife in the field yet but I know it'll be a ripper, and in know he would try to gut me with it if I didn't put it up (SHEATH and all). The Svord it a pretty good knife, and the first one I bought for hunting. I actually like the the sheath more than the actual knife. It's not ideal because it has a pretty ordinary point, but does hold a good edge. I really like the blade profile on the victory knife and it is razor sharp. Not pretty, but very practical. The old Sabatier I had to include as it's my camp knife, and I found it jammed in a tree in Inverloch. Very random place to find a quality French Carbon steel cooks knife. With a bit of work it's come up pretty well and I love using it. Cheers
