  4. Mate I have travelled countless times with knives in my CHECKED BAGGAGE. I don't believe it is illegal or an issue (at least it hasn't been for me). Of course, it is illegal to have a knife in your carry-on luggage. As for import, certain bladed weapons are forbidden; but not your traditional hunting knives - they are still allowed . http://www.customs.g...adedWeapons.pdf
  5. Nah mate. It's a Nieto with 7 inch blade. But the model name escapes me ATM. Not a bad knife but not the greatest. Great memories though as it was bought by my dad for my birthday about 10 years ago from the Brewarrina, NSW newsagency. Has been on every hunting trip since .
  6. Mate, my apologies. Those knives were not from Cabela's. They were there for size comparison/set-the-scene. Sorry for any confusion. The larger is an older Nieto that I have had for years and the smaller is a brand new fold-out Black Fox I received as a gift for my birthday - picked up in Italy and is made by an Italian manufacturer: http://www.foxcutlery.com/en/page/1/company.html And yes, the boots are awesome! Cheers, Zubtec
  7. G'day Cam, Just saw your other thread! Ha ha. Mate, as to camo patterns, I would have a look at cabelas.com and check out what they have to offer. There are numerous kinds available with each item of clothing. Then, get a few photos up of your typical hunting areas next to them in order to compare and contrast. As I said, the duller browns, greys and greens of RealTree suit my hunting area really well (actually looks really similar to typical tussock and casuarina forest areas!). I also think it would fare well in most parts of Australia where vibrant colours (besides green) are rare. There are Australian manufacturers now producing camo gear for Australian conditions (e.g. ContraCam etc...) I have no doubt that they would be great but I can't justify the prices, especially when, as said above, what I bought suits my needs precisely. Speaking of price, excluding the boots and bipod, I spent just over $500.00 AUS incl. shipping that includes: jacket (the most $), 2 pairs of pants, shirt, gloves and beanie. Bargain IMO! Good luck mate and let us know how you get on. Cheers, Zubtec
  8. Hi all, My birthday was earlier this month and I decided I needed to spoil myself. Conveniently, I was also in desperate need of new hunting clothing/footwear as it had been a long time and many a hunt since my last purchase. So, with our dollar at an all-time high, I set about to scouring Cabelas.com and this is what I came up with: Basically summer and winter wear, with the jacket being 100% waterproof and insulated and the boots waterproof and GoreTex (which also features in numerous other items, as does ScentLok [which I think is a bit of a gimmick anyway]). I chose RealTreeAPHD for all (except boots which have minimal but similar camo) as it best suits the drier and duller colours of the areas I hunt. STILL TO COME: insulated and waterproof pants that had to be backordered. Cabela's have a great sizing system and charts and an extremely useful LiveChat for any questions regarding the order. Unfortunately, the USPS post they use does not offer a tracking option but all arrived within 2 weeks any way so can't complain! As to price, I can say that had I spent the same amount in Australia, I would have only had an equivalent pair of boots and jacket to show for it... Well worth a look-in IMO. Cheers, Zubtec

Yea Im hunting a sheep property that I have been going to since i was a kid. It has pigs and the owner has seen deer and heard goats. No one goes up into the hills steep and lots of bush.

Ha ha mate sounds pretty much the same as where I hunt. Except no livestock - it's far too steep and thick! We had the bait set up for 2 weeks prior to this weekend. Got the cams during the week so went up, positioned them and dropped a heap of grain around to make sure they'd come back/weren't too concerned by our scent. I'm sure there's a chance you could catch some in the act in the first couple of days. Fingers crossed and good luck

  12. Bait stations set and ready! Phase 1 of the master plan complete!

  13. Just checked some other websites and the exit pupil is listed differently for both models??? Argh... 4.2mm for both, then 5.25 for both??? Surely they must be the same... 5.25mm using standard equation. Bushnell appears to have the upper hand for me. I have looked at a pair of the Legend series but have not compared it in person with the Vortex. BUT it does have Extra Low Dispersion glass, whereas this is not used in the Diamondback range, only in more premium models. I believe this enhances light transmission and, thus, will prove beneficial in low light (which is when I do most of my hunting). I think the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 8x42 will therefore be my choice.
  14. Cheers Jase for the prompt reply, Apologies, but I did attach the wrong link before. Was meant to compare the Trophy with these: http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-8x42-legend-ultra-hd-binoculars-black-roof-198042.html I've pretty much ruled out the 10x as I also read that they're useless if you're shaking etc... 8x seem to be more versatile. Those Vortex look very good and are a fair price in my mind. Thanks for the recommendation. I agree with spending $ for quality. For my current finances, however, I think my choice is narrowed to the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 8x42 ($235) vs. Vortex Diamondback 8x42 ($219). Both are multi-coated, use BaK-4 prisms and are nitrogen purged etc... Very evenly matched on paper in most ways, but Vortex appears to beat it in exit pupil... Which confuses me as they are both 8x42 and I though exit pupil is measured by comparing diameter and magnification... I believe exit pupil is important in low light conditions though so will confirm these stats. Anyway, will try make a decision soon!
  15. G'day Jase. That's some excellent information mate. Thank you. But you have now made my decision very difficult!!! Was tossing up between two Bushnell models but you have expressed a clear dislike for them... They appear to meet all your requirements except for eye strain, which I guess is very important though... Have you had a look at either of these models? 1) http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-binoculars-8x42-trophy-realtree-camo-wp.html 2) http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-10x42-legend-ultra-hd-binoculars-rainguard.html Trying to justify the price difference and/or if I should be looking for more expensive units. Would appreciate your thoughts/elaboration. Cheers
