  1. use a crooked horn, suits my needs but maybe not the best available, but still handy.only short fall ,if you have the harness adjusted to make easy lifting to the eye the binos swing out a bit if you lean over, say looking at tracks ect,but not a big problem.more tension on the sraps make it a difficult hold to the eye if your glassing for a while. I should have got the bino cover as well, little sticks[very little ] small leaves and dirt fall on the lense if you are sneaking thick stuff and don't have lense covers on.the cover is like a shower cap and fits over the whole bino keeping dirt leaves and water off the lense's,must get one one day.cheers

    Peed Right Off

no good optic, bit hard when you make and deliver in good faith ,only to be let down by some one back down the line. where these the group of matching knives you posted a while back ?,they certainly looked the goods then. nothing like home grown timber[or any thing for that matter] chin up optic ,not your fault
  4. with ozrider here,we bought a southern cross trecker deluxe[6 person canvas] in 2000 have used it a lot. 11 days straight on the move ,Birdsville ect,'13 22 days straight on the move again to the tip and back.lots of wet trips at a week at a time to howitt high plains and the gatta with no problems. has been a terrific tent to use,and takes very little time to put up,cost us $ 1100.00 at the time added an awning @$400.00 a bit later, definitley worth the money and top quality.only down side ,it weghts 30 kg and is a little heavy to put up onto the cruiser rack, but you manage when you have too.sleeps 6 adults well so a few extra smaller ones would probablay fit in ok.in the bigger picture buy the best you can manage..as oz said after use maintenance is critical to good long service, we to air ours out for week, even if it didn't get wet just to be sure.[and no ,we don't have shares in sth cross].hope this helps ,cheers,
  5. very nice job that.i'm blown away with the talents of members here.cheers
  6. the same as duncs,I've seem something similar but with a "t "handle and slightly larger blade.imho would make for a natural sweep with blade while removing skin.cheers
  7. try spraying [and let dry] with eucyalyptas oil[sh.t spelling I know] ,have heard this works, but not tried it myself.cheers

    Skinning Knife

nice looking knives psk, interesting shape, looks like they would "flow "well.do they have much weight in them? how does the edge stand up on tougher/larger skins like sambar ? most of my knives make think...I have 3 to4 inchesof blade but mainly use only the first 1 to 1 1/2 inches and have noticed a trend in more compact styles over the last few years.cheers

    Latest One

at that price very affordable, certainly look good enough to market, to me, from the pics.just curious where they would sit amongst commercial available knives price wise, people seem to not mind paying preminum prices for quality items that work well.cheers

    My Knife

    very,very nice.
  14. gday optic ,you must have got a dud.we've got a bit of ridgeline gear and its all ok.for the price it's doing a good job.sadly across the board things are no longer made like they used to be,and "warrantys"are definitely not worth the paper the're printed on with some retailer/manufacturers.a few years ago eldest son bought a rifle/scope and the scope would not hold zero after a short time.went back and bought a new scope and the bloke asked what was wrong with original scope and said pretty quick..life time warranty ,bring it back...scope came back fixed with a new reticle..no cost and all good the.the brand is pride and fowler[i know its not a well known brand]but the warranty was good.cheers
  15. no idea dom, there are that many on the market now its hard to keep up with the new ones.
  16. gday dom, guess your looking at units for the car/4x4. I have a weaco dual zone 50 lt. and it seems ok at this time as its only a few years old.engels have a good following ,just a bit dearer than weaco's. if you have the space, trailblazer make good solid fridge, not sure on fridge/freezers though.my brother has had one for years and its been trouble free.i would guess about 18 years old, been to the cape 3 times[ forth trip soon] ,canning stock route,2 simpson crossings and countless trips to the high country and similar places .most of these trips are 2 weeks or more.no idea of price but they are a big unit compared to others on the market .hope this helps cheers
  17. well done rangefinder, its nice to get a win sometimes.having trouble obtaining a water tank for the rear of the 80's,rang flexitank industries ,dicussed needs and space ,custom water bladder on its way.matson products are good and obviously back it up the same.bought some exhaust components that didnt fit,no satisfaction and ended in greif, end of story.cheers
  18. your right duncs, was going to put it in but thought of it later and thats were i wonder if the vibram soles that dont seem to grip some surfaces in the wet might have something to do with the tread but i've no idea as i havent used them so i cant comment.sometimes my hitecs with a rubber type sole dont grip everything i stand on so the compound might have a lot to do with it as well.the bloke who makes the perfect [or near to it ]sambar boot will do all right i reckon. after "feeling"the weight of a boot i go straight to the sole and look at its pattern,in particular to see what the loose down hill grip might be like as well as sidling grip but each to his own i suppose.my wife has a pair of merrels, more a hiking boot with not real high anlke support but good grip except for wet rocks /logs and they are vibram.they are not a realy chuncky style but suit her,and they would want be for the money they cost.cheers
  19. saw a pair of columbia"bugaboots"in rays out doors last week, dont know much about them as far as quality etc goes, but they were light ,probably4- 6 inches above ankle, good rubber cover over toe area and along the side above the sole which was vibram[some dont like this on hunting boots],from memory claimed to be waterproof, insulated, black ,good padding at collar and tongue,a mix of leather and cordura i think and about $200 odd.i currently use a pair of hi tecs and apart from limited ankle support the're good and suit me but will look at a pair of moroka .30's next, not cheap but look the goods.imho budget plays a big part in boot purchase but failed feet=failed trip to me and i have to drive to far to blow it on poor boots[been there done that] and so far the hitecs are doing the job well and fitted the budget at the time.cheers
  20. only dealt with c&a a couple of times, couldnt have asked for better sevice.cheers
  21. chrisso, have look at www.ozhuntingandbows.com.au they have snake proof gaiters and reasonable prices.from memory i've had my huntecs for 6 years or so and they cost $110.00 then, picked up at morwell.cheers.
  22. i dont know if the huntec are"snake resistant" but i reckon that the canvas would be tough/thick enough to reduce the penetration a bit, add that to the clothing underneath and it would have to help i suppose....certainly not going to do a"field"test to find out...lol.the snake resistant ones i have seen are more for bush walkers where a bit of noise isnt an issue to them, they are made of a nylon type of mareial and are fairly stiff, but they do go up to the knee.just had a "measure"by eye and my huntecs would go to 4"short of my knee[i'm 5.10] so i'm only "safe"low snakes.a mate was grabbed by a snake a while back, back packing into the gatta and it hung on ,not sure if he had gaiters, probably not.but he wasnt bitten......but he did s,,,t himself and made a fair noise about his mate getting the snake of before it did bite him..lol.no idea what sort of snake or how big. give c&a canvas a ring in morwell ,thats where i got mine.they might have more of an idea.cheers
  23. gday chrisso,we've been using hunteck gaitors for years now. only problem was one press stud failed [out of three pair] easily fixed.easy to put on /hook up,keep your feet fairly dry,fit and wear well but not quite knee high. they have canvas inner and fleece outer, closed with zip and studs, hook to toe laces.there are some who reckon snakes stike high ,higher than the knee.i dont know personaly as i've not been struck at [that i know of anyway] but if you covered all possibles you'd cover from ankle to armpit...or stay home personaly i watch more for bees.this is one of those around the fire discusions,as everyone will have a veiw based on their own experiences and opinions.havent seen the moroka ones but if their like his other stuff they will probably good value, although dearer than others.good luck on your deccission .cheers
