  1. This was my first attempt using Damasteel stainless steel Damascus and I am very happy with the result. Hope you like! Blades, spring and fittings: Damasteel Stainless Damascus Timber: Ringed Gidgee Ferrules: Sterling Silver Dimensions: Barrel: 4" / 100mm Large blade: 70mm Small Blade: 40mm
  2. Yest handle will be held by single pin only... Bruce is on his way to becoming a master smith. He has already passed the cutting and bend test where he had to make a stick tang knife with 300 layer damascus fixed with a single pin, put the tip in the vice and bend it to 90 degrees without anything breaking, so I have little doubt this one will take all abuse I can throw at it...
  3. Yeah that's some cheap Damascus! If it works, go for it. I am staggered at the price, considering the amount of material used to make damascus and the amount of time and labour it makes you wonder how they can do it. My favourite knife is still my little Helle Nying that got me started in knifemaking. Very similar to this one.
  4. Here is my Bruce Barnett knife. Sorry about the pictures...
  5. It is at home... all I have here is the awesome DP Custom which sadly does not belong to me.
  6. Here is one of my two Sydney show scores... I need to take a picture of the other one... A Bruce Barnett Hunter in W2 with a fantastic Hamon. This one is a Zac Cheong Flipper with fully hand engraved titanium scale. I got to say this is the nicest folding knife I have ever held. The engraving is just perfect by one of the newest engravers on the Aussie knife scene "Danae" She is a very talented young lady. I commissioned a light weight simple pack folder, and git a stunning work of art. Could not be happier!
  7. Wow mate, that's a beautiful knife! Well done mate!
  8. Looks like a Pakistan Damascus knife to me... Worth about $50 Something like this I would sand it back with Rhynowet red wet and dry. Look for a makers mark and if there is not one, chuck it away. If there is a makers mark (and nobody ever heard of a damascus knife without a makers mark that wasn't from Pakistan) I would re etch in Ferric Chloride... for a nice contrast. then rebuild handle. Thats my two cents....
  9. I will write more after the dust settles, post the Sydney show but can answer any questions.

Well I thought I better say hi! I have only ever been hunting once... On Swan Island out in Bass straight. There was really not much on Swan Island... a lighthouse, an airfield, the caretakers cottage and about 20 million bunnies. My parents booked a holiday there back when I was a teen to get away from it all... I must of looked bored 'cause the caretaker gave me a .22 and a few boxes of bullets and I set about creating havoc on the bunny population. that was 20 years ago now. Anyhow didn't shoot a gun again until the Texans took me shooting when I was there this year. The Oozi and M16 may not have much of a place in hunting, but I still want one! Anyhow I have been making knives for a few years now... started putting handles on bought blades and then did a blacksmithing course and now I forge my own blades... I don't make traditional hunting blades, I am more interested in Scandinavian style blades. Which are traditional hunting blades, just not so much know here in Aus. Here are a few of my less shameful attempts... Bushcrafter forged from leaf spring with micarta handle Slimline field knife in M2 with Carbon fiber Hand forged bearing casing blade with brass Mallee Root and buffalo horn handle. Hand forged Cable Damascus with Beefwood. Forging a blade from a bearing casing Helle Fillet Blade in cork leather and Mulga.
  12. Yeah if you make a grinder go with the 1830 mm or 72" Belts. There are some awesome belts available in this size. I will look into forum sponsorship I already sponsor a few... Though nothing before the Sydney show I am busting ring getting ready for that. Seriously I would encourage you to stick with it. I see a lot of first knives, yours are right up the top end. Adam Parker of Parker knives, President of the Australian Knifemakers Guild is running classes in Victoria now... would be well worth your while heading down and learning some tricks of the trade. (No affiliation)
  13. Mate, you should be proud of every one of them! I am not the worlds best maker, not even close, but I started putting handles on blades back in 2002 and have been an addict ever since. I make about 4-5 in a good year so not really prolific. I just love it though. plain and simple. And yes it still frustrates the heck out of me. sometimes I wish I did knitting instead ;-) Everywhere I go someone always knows me and wants to point out a typo! you will be glad you did though because the price were all wrong too... all old retail prices. I have just uploaded the new version to the website if you want to download. up to version 2.2 now. I will post a bit of an intro thread... I don't really make hunting knives though... I do supply the industry, but not here to self promote.... Anyhow thanks for the welcome. I will have a look around and post up an intro. Google knifemaking and blacksmithing suppliers in Australia and I am sure you will find your answers. I don't want any trouble with the owners here being new and all.
  14. Wow, that is a great matching set! What steel are they? Did you make the blades also? Great job overall, there is no looking back now. You in hook line and sinker! What have you got in mind for your next project?
