  1. Garmin do their best to block free maps from working to get your extra $200. I got sick of the issues just trying to get the current DPI requirement maps working on the old 64S every 1/4. Still trying and can't get the latest. Lucky as free Avensa maps are so much better and I don't bother with taking the Garmin as a backup in state forests. With a modern bigger phone screen, I can also use it in the car exploring the forest tracks.
  2. I got a lower budget big mag spotter that punches above it's weight. A Vanguard for about $400 or so when they brought out a new model and put the original ones on sale. Not sure how far, but I recon you could check out animals at a fair range. Who can justify the price of a top end spotting scope, I hardly ever use mine.
  3. Even before the greed and covid taxes, it is hard and a bigger hobby than you think to set up with the never ending list of must haves. I was going to start with a cheap .22 like a Savage or Marlin but a few hundred more got me a CZ. Cry once and got a 22 for life. I laughed at what they wanted for 2nd hand guns and lots are duds that blokes just sell, it's a suss thing and I found it better to buy new in stock rifles on sale. Everyone needs a 22, so why not buy one first and send thousands of rounds of cheap ammo through it. I shot mine for over 6 months and was shopping for a shotty. The Akkar was about $1,200 but shotties have to fit and handle well and when I picked up a Beretta Silver pigeon, I knew it was for me and got one on sale. Shooting clays the cheap ones may give problems but should go fine in the field not shooting as many rounds. If you go one project at a time you can put the thought into the next and not make the common mistakes like buying a varmint and a 6-24 power scope to hike in the hills for 6 hours with. Also think hard on cal choices for the same reasons.
  4. LOL, I thought you were going to say you seen a couple doing other things and could see every detail. Would be a blast to look through a good one but who's ever going to pay for one.
  5. I used a cheapo sling for about 2 years of misery and then got the tip. Just went through my paypal to find the name. Quake Claw Original Sling. Hard to believe how good it is and grips to anything, even my left shoulder that nothing won't fall off, even my t-shirts hang down. It face planted the tarmac and must have dropped near an inch. The well shaped rubber type stuff that makes them so comfy and grippy seems very durable to boot. Only cost about $54 delivered, might buy another for Justin. Look them up blokes, you won't regret it apart from not getting one earlier. Where is the Hill Dog? gone bush hiding from Covid rules not seen a post for some time now.
  6. Gday all. Started shooting after a long break 1996. Love it all especially hunting deer in the state forests?
