Gryph, just a though mate, with the Aus dollar the way it is, it would pay to check out the price of a Nikon XL from the states, they are an excellent spotting scope.

Hi Gryph, I've got the 15-45 x 50, for fine detail it's really only useful up to 30 power, 35 at the most. In good light though, you would certainly be able to judge length and width of head gear using it at 45. It's certainly not in the class of my mates Leica but for the money the Sequoia is damn good value. Very early and very late I usually use it on 20 -25 power.

Yep, I've got a Sequoia, they are good value but if I had the money I'd get a Leica or a Swarovski, they are superb, no other word for them.

Yep Tassie born, been here all my life and I'm not moving either, why would would you with the best Trout fishing in Aus, the best trophy Fallow heard in the southern hepishere and bugger all distance to travel to chase them, I've hunted the big Island several times (Sambar and Chital) with some success, it's a nice place to visit, but I'm sorry I wouldn't like to live there . I hate the hot weather, I reckon the only good thing about summer is the excellent fishing and the Cricket , give me the mountains and the odd snow fall anytime. My two passions are Flyfishing and of course hunting and I love anything to do with our Central Highlands history..........I'll rite some more later when I get more time, I'm just packing up to head for the Shack for a bit of fishing and to sight the rifles in for the deer season

I've got a Leatherman Supertool and the Kick, they are both very handy.

I've got an L model, I've used it on everything from Roo( Wallaby) and rabbit's, throught to Fallow and even Pronghorn antelope, with my 222 right up to my 7mm magnum, they really are a great asset.

Slug Guts, the scope cost me around $500 with the case. As far as useable power goes with a spotting scope, there are very few times that you can use over 30x effectively, usually only in the early mornings, once the sun gets up mirage is a real problem and detail is very hard to see, in the cooler higher elevation area's you might be able to extend the use of over 30x for a bit longer, the most useable power range is between the lowest power up to around 30x, in the late arvo, it will be a lot less. It may be a different matter with the high end scopes such as those made by Swarovski and Leica. Yep, I got my Buck this year.

I do mate, I've got a Wind River Sequia (Leupold), wouldn't be without it know and it's alway in the Hilux when out in the Deer range. Before I started stalking this years Fallow Buck, we studied him in our Spotting Scopes, making sure that he was worth the effort. Mine is a 15-45x, they are a great tool, but I am going to buy a tripod that extends further, so I can view while sitting instead of laying down.
