  1. You can accurately judge distance with a spotting scope - but they are not 'range finders' so to speak. This is done by understanding the sub-tension rule; that is 1mil = 1m @ 1000m. All you need is to know the measurements of all markings within your scope (reticle pattern). I think you will go over $500 for this RF in Aus but it is VG; http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/rangefinders/rx-1000i-with-dna-rangefinders/rx-1000i-tbr-with-dna-digital-laser-rangefinder/ It is 6x as well...
  2. I don't know how to use all the features on this sight. I want to send you my mobile wthtout everyone else seeing it? If you know how send me yours and I'll give you a call...

We only (90%) use A.R.M.S mounting systems for QD/QR solutions.

I have seen these absolutely f_cking tortured without failure.

    They are true MILSPEC.

    Let me know ...

  6. They are the only brand that we'll run. My current pair are 4 years old and have been tortured beyond imagination. They are a different model, but they're Peltor... Like one of the other post's said - you'll get cheaper ones that won't be as consistent and clear in reduction. Look around for the gel ear pads they make for some of their models as an upgrade. These are the beez neez if you intend to wear them for protracted periods...
  7. Nice one - thx. I almost brought a Puma last time I was in the US, I'll get one next time... It looks similar to the one your posted...
  8. Just check out the prohibited weapons sched if you are after something specific. The short of it is; single edged fixed blades are fine - no issues. If it is a folder, single edge that does not and can not open in any way automatically is fine. No 'punch' or 'knuckle' knives/instruments. I check in numerous knives ALWAYS; NEVER had an issue and I travel a lot...
  9. What's the fixed blade mate? Puma? You can never have too many...
  10. +1 The Eberlestock are premium mate, but very worth it... They will withstand very heavy loads and lots of torture...
  11. For all round versatility stick with 6 or 8 x with 30-42mm objectives. If you are shooting something specific, as stated by 'pajero', you need to up or down in magnification/objectives respectively. I would highly recommend staying with the well known brands as well. Otherwise they are unreliable in extreme conditions and you end up spending the same money as you will need to replace them soon after purchase??
  12. Epitome, I would suggest the 20x in a spotting scope is not a spotting scope. As I'm sure you're aware mate you can get a lot of scopes 20x and above. You can also get them with objectives at 56mm so no gain there really either - IMO... So, that leaves us with the 25-75 x 60, this sounds a lot better. What brand is it though? I would not buy one unless it was a 'known' brand. Otherwise first time you take it out and come back with moisture inside the tube you'll be kicking yourself!! $130 does sound a little cheap for quality. You can get some very good deals off eBay though? Hope that helps, I know you posted ages ago, but I'm in and out of Australia now like swine flu. So, just trying to catch up.

    Bush Knife

The machete as everyone states is generally the best option. Ensure you get an ex-Australian Army one, maintain it and it will outlast you. Just consider these ponts though; Hacking through primary or secondary jungle is friggin' hard work. It is much easier to snip away with SECATEURS. This is not only more economy of effort it is heaps more quiet? What are you hunting that you think will wait there as they hear a human hacking through the jungle, or very thick bush, towards them. The vast majority of our jungle is in NQLD, the primary pest within is that bacon!! They will not sit and listen to this. Remember because they suffer from poor eye sight; they're other senses are very acute. I notice a lot of difference shooting a pig out west to in the jungle... Happy Jack has a good point as well; you can't and to honest shouldn't go through our jungle/bush/forrests hacking paths with a machete? I'm not a greenie, but it is unnecessary.
  14. Poncho's are generally garb, they are a carry over of an antiquated design. If you just want one in your ruck for contingencies - then sure it's good have just in case. I wouldn't spend anymore than tinyted's bargain of $8 at Bunnings. If you want to lighten your pocket get Goretex, Emphatex or equivilent. You can get these in most camo patterns, it'll last your life. Totally windproof, waterproof, breathable, etc... You can get then alot cheaper to nowadays. Check the finish on them though, some are noisy than others. If you decide to get one I'll give you some more key features to get so it's an investment...
  15. I had Narva's on an old Landrover, IMO they are sub-std as already stated - def lower end. You certainly can't even compare them to LF, these are superior in every way. I also have some IPF's on my Hilux, they've been grt. I wouldn't go below Hella though if you can afford it. Either; LF, IPF, Hella and you shouldn't have any complaints.

    Gps

Rick, What do you want it for. I have several units and use them at work a lot. Like a lot of things you can get a unit that will do both as you ask - street nav and loc hunting waypoints, campsites, etc. If you don't live in one of the capital city's you will not need the street nav func. So, I would get one of the better H/H units. As prev mentioned Garmin are exc and all other reputable brands will prov VG performance; Magellan, etc. Don't be fooled by size, I have an Suunto X9i wrist computer and it will get the same 10fig (MGRS) that $3000 veh unit w/roof mount. Just takea a little while longer to get loc. So, come up with a budget and primary use and I'll be able to give more guidance. The Etrex series are probably the best size, quality and bang-for-buck on the market though - have a look at them.
