  1. adzym Yep, nor did I - Haven't talked climbing for years. The Army only ever gave us a pair of stickies and that was it. And what do you mean by "30' angled wall" - all we had to climb was vertical !!! I must admit, one of my instructors was a superb climber, gave us a demo at Mt Arapeles of free climbing a very smooth vertical wall. I am not built for climbing and wasn't very good at it but thankfully running face first off the top of cliffs (like Arapeles) was more important than climbing so I passed !!! LOL
  2. Gees, they have come a long way from the plain old stickies. Do they use one particular shoe depending on what they are climbing that day ? I can't imagine someone changing shoes half way up a climb but correct me if I am wrong.
  3. I know 99% of what we buy is from China. It's not all good, it's not all crap. The price list of most things that come from China reads like this. T Shirt Average quality $4.00 T Shirt Good quality $4.90 T Shirt Best quality $5.50 On other things it's XYZ Product Average quality $18.00 1 Failure in a 100,000 T Shirt Good quality $22.00 1 Failure in a 1/2 million T Shirt Best quality $28.00 1 Failure in a million On clothing, I was talking about this in the NT over Xmas and my mate commented on the old style US Marine jackets being good - and one of the specific things he mentioned was the stitching (it is good) AND that when you put your hand in a pocket you don't end up with a handful of loose threads when trying to get some ammo out. Those practical things are the difference between good and poor quality. I have said before, many people in this world can't differentiate between price and value. Just my HO. .
  4. Optic I get Camo clothing made, I can tell you that in my experience, the #### stitching makes half the Chinese LOW END clothes fall apart and is not good value in the long run. Just my HO. I hate to say it but you could have bought Ridgeline for almost that amount. .
  5. And to use a really wet rag - both on the roof and the rubber cups - water helps create a good seal. Tension - yes, it does seem to come loose a bit. I did the roof rack thing at one time as well. For the same reasons. Works fine. I just preferred an easy on, easy off unit like the Suction cups.
  6. You summed it up well and hit the key points.. When I get home, I wipe down / wash my cups and spray Armourall on them, then wrap a plastic bag round them so it stays on - otherwise the rubber dries out. I am just about to replace my rubber cups - which were purchased in 1983 !!!. So over 25 years with one set !!!. I'll let you know how much they cost.
  7. Hairyhunter. They shouldn't come off Only had mine comes "unstuck" once in 25 years but I hold onto the handle anyway and to be honest, I hadn't quite cleaned the roof enough. I also use water to add cohesion to the cups.
  8. Some of the roofs of vehicles would have a dent put in it with that. It happens already with the Suction cup mounting system on newer vehicles - they seem to have gone to a thinner metal now.
  9. I'll let you know once I know !!! .
  10. Just got off the phone. Not as many restrictions as I thought. And we might even be able to make you an IR torch
  11. Gibs I'm still waiting for the return call so no news yet. I can't think what they are but I believe their are IR restrictions but will check. Because most IR stuff is marketed to the military / police, it's not an issue. I might be able to get you a lens
  12. Gibs The problem is, most of us are restricted from who we can sell IR Illuminators to. And, a fair few come out of the US and so to an extent are restricted in export as well. I'll ask a few questions for you and see what I can come up with.
  13. Gibs No worries. Getting round IR restrictions is a PITA. There are some really good IR Illuminators out there. .
  14. cj I thought he wanted a Xenon torch ? Gibs Why not mount a Lightforce 140 HID ? .
