  1. At long last he turned up. My colour blind son can see orange colours and call them as orange. He can see the blues as in the camo and call it as blue and purple. Where he does have difficulty is in the reds, greens, and some blues. He can get them confused with purple. So does that help? I don't think so. Without doing the research about all forms of human colour blindness it looks to me like the blue is on the borderline of recognition by ALL colour blind hunters. So my opinion on the Zarco....almost convincing marketing. Thanks for that again Tez338 Grant
  2. Thanks Tez338, it is interesting alright. I've watched it a few times and have some observations. First, something about the clip. It starts off with a lot of African game with a few deer pics and the viewer thinks that eventhough the speaker is talking about deer, this product applies to all game animals. A mind trick. A really good marketing clip. The main pitch is to deer hunters in the USA then to a specific group of colour blind deer hunters. Deer readily see blue, no doubt about it. The explanation given here as to why this Zarco camo works on deer is that it confuses the eye of the game. Give me a break!! And that infra red reflector agents in the fabric contribute to this. I'll tell you what confuses a deer...a bullet!. Regarding the colour blind hunters being able to spot this camo much more easily than an orange, I'll post an answer soon. My young bloke is colour blind so I'll do some testing when he gets in to work this arvo. Take a look at the old pictures of the deer hunters with all sorts of coloured gear on. In my view, the most successful hunters have great hunting skills and knowledge as a main attribute. After that comes quality gear, and possibly a willingness to wear safety orange. More to come. 3. No Shadow, the AAA battery holder is in it. Haven't mounted either on a rifle but I'm sure you can get mounts that don't cost the earth. The handle diameter of the P7 is 30mm and the U4 is 28mm, I reckon you could use the same mount for both. The P7 can be focussed but not the U4. Grant
  4. I have a P7 for about $70 then bought an Ultrafire U4-MCU from Deal Extreme for about $25. Cant separate them. Good value. Grant
  5. Krusty, what's your address?

  6. Nah, sorry Big Jak can't do it. But I can send you a couple of dozen dim sims to get you started on the road physical recovery. Grant
  7. Aaaw Jock! So it fitted you? I was a bit apprehensive branding you XXL after I took a look at the 'Gatta pics. ( I meant that it might be too big!) Thanks for that Jock, it means a lot coming from you. Tell me how the pack goes down when it happens. I have a couple of improvements to make to it next production run. Cheers Grant
  8. Forgot to tell you why I can't comment publicly. It's because I'm a filthy capitalist and I don't want to alienate any potential pinko, latte sipping, pseudo environmentalist tree hugging bush walkers who could be in the market for a backpack.

  9. Hi Fangster.

If you wrote that divorce agreement I'm impressed, if you didn't I'm still impressed. I'm not in a position to publicly say "hear hear" so I'm telling you. Cheers Grant

  10. Gryph those boots bottom right ROCK Outdoors are the best boots (not yours, mine) I have ever owned. Wore them at Kokoda and many years after that. I even had them repaired when some stitching came away. I would buy them again but can't find them anywhere. Originally got mine from Rays Outdoors but they don't have them any more. Got any clues where I can get them please? Grant
  11. Hi Samburstalker, welcome to AusHunt. Do I know you? The name seems familiar. Grant
  12. Gee they have gone up then! Bought mine Ebay I think about $75 from Honkers. Grant
  13. Jason I agree with the Ultrafire value for money equation. I bought an Ultrafire $17.50 jobbie when my wife "lost" my P7. It's nowhere near the P7 in build quality and distance of beam but as a camp light or walk out of the bush light, very good. AAA batteries too but I haven't run down my first set yet so they maybe quite good for battery life. P7 now "found" down the side of the couch. Doesn't hurt to have a few torches as well as knives and firearms. Grant
  14. Brendan, as Len said you can use a small wireless 9V camera powered by a 12V battery. Out to 500m might be a battle for it though. About the size of a matchbox it sends the image to a tuner attached to a small 7" screen, all 12VDC. I used to tie one onto the head of my dog, powered by a 9VDC battery and watch where he went when nobody was looking. Just blokes having fun with gadgets. Grant
  15. Welcome Brent, So start contributing on the dogs, the dog blokes on this forum just love talking about their extra family members. They will certainly be interested in your experience. Grant
  16. Worm, can you imagine the track you will leave after getting out of a river or over muddy ground. You'll have all the Bigfoot hunters on your trail in no time. Watch your back trail old son. Grant
  17. Thanks Gryph, I was starting to get worried. Grant
  18. BassPro for me too last year but got the Wolverine ScentMask in camo. Waterproof, thinsulate, light and tough. Ended up buying another pair in larger size though because I got caught with the US sizing. The pair that is a bit small I can still use with thin socks in good weather though. Very nice to wear Grant P.S. A word of warning. Wolverine will spam you for quite a while with product info.
  19. I'm also in the Irrigation Equipment business. I have 80mm caps, 100's of then. $8.60 posted anywhere in Australia just for forum members for this project. Wall thickness is 6mm. PM me for details. Grant Edit, sorry I see you need two of these, $3.60 each plus post or pick up.
  20. You hit the nail right on the head when you said human eyes. Military camo is designed these days to match the local environment and to hide to a certain extent, humans from humans. Hunting camo is designed to sell! People buy it because it looks good to them. The best camo of the lot for both endeavours, military and animal hunting is to have some of the local bush, sticks or dirt actually attached to a base of clothing. That is, be a human piece of bush. The only good camo clothing is the stuff that is one, quiet when moving against bush and itself, and two is actually comfortable and serves a good prupose by being tough and tear resistent, warm or waterproof. Forget about hiding from animals if you are moving, all of the game animals see movement far better than they do detail. The main things to camouflage whether moving or still is the skin areas of the face and hands and a shiny firearm. And if you are going to be keeping still for fair periods of time stay away from blue colours as most animals can see it as a bright blue against the surrounding greyscale or sepia colouring of their world. Grant
  21. They are 3 of 4 of a bone handled set for skinning and caping, there is another straight one in the safe. Originally from Pakistan I think. Really too small in the handle for me but would be usefull for delicate work, they keep an edge too. Grant
  22. I think the word you are looking for is damascene or damascus. No it's not, its a Kris type knife from the Philipines or Malaysia I think. The one on top of that is a Sheffield bayonet for the .303. Excellent condition, 1918 I think, have the scabbard too. Grant
  23. I use the second, third and fifth from the left consistently. The bunny knife and the next on the right were made by Wally Bidgood. Fantastic knives. The next one is the folder. Chinese knockoff of a Gerber I think but the blade can be razor sharp but needs a couple of stokes on the steel to bring it back after a only a short time. The others have all had work but never go hunting now. Worm you have a point there with the other half's accessories, but in her case it would be ear rings. Thanks for reminding me. Regarding cheap knives. you can be lucky and pick up one which has just the right hardness of steel, by accident I'm sure. So there is a reason to collect them, you never know. Grant
