  1. The ebay one is the one that I used, it had the round ballast mounted on the back of the light. Just a pity its not a 50W HID. I know they are available, equivalent to 135W+. The 35W is meant to be equivalent to a 100W incandescent bulb. Or so I understand!
  2. Which kit did you use to convert to HID out of interest penguin?
  3. Just to throw in my 2c - I've used someone elses SL140 with the RC150 and the suction cup roof mount thingo on a 93 landcruiser and the handle was way too short for what you want, it was painful after a while. I'm not sure which handle would work with the door mount though - does anyone know if its easy to shorten the handles? If it is maybe buy the longer one and shorten to taste. The gimbal mount is awesome, adjustable tension and the light definitely stays where you point it, but takes a little bit of effort to sweep the light (I'm sure the longer handle would have helped me with that setup). I didn't mess with tension on the one I was using, it was someone elses rig but I'm sure the sweet spot could be found. I've used a HID converted handheld lightforce 240 very recently and I didn't think it was very good. I think it was an ebay kit fitted to an older housing. The light is lacking in wavelengths just like compact fluoro's in your house so you don't get the definition at distance like with a normal incandescent bulb. I didn't even think it was as bright as a normal 100W bulb, but it was a 35W kit not a 50W kit. I wouldn't waste the time or money on one now, be happy with a normal 100W bulb and run 6mm2 cable to the light and big crocodile clips straight to the battery. Oh and waiting for the HID lamp to warm up to full light after switching it back on takes far too long and it doesn't keep your hands warm like a normal light either
  4. Awesome story, I could imagine how disorientating a light that bright on strobe could be, I've got a little LED bike light and its blinding if you glance at it and the strobe just about gives you a headache. Who knows with the foxes, they might have seen spotlights before but probably never a strobe. They seem to be quite curious when they're younger, they might stick around to see what it is if you slowly walk towards them. Had that recently just walking around with a normal handheld spotty. FFS why can't people put their dogs on a leash? I think the dog and/or owner needs a bullet. It breaks my heart when I see some old lady on TV bawling her eyes out because some idiots inbred macho dog has mauled their companion that was on a leash.
  5. I've used one of the Lightforce suction cup setups on my Uncles '93 Landcruiser Ute. I asked him at the time and he said that it doesn't come off at all if the roof is cleanish but he does wet the cups before putting it on. I reckon he told me that he'd left it on for a month once and it stayed on the whole time! As to the cold affecting it, I don't know because it doesn't get super cold where he lives so it wouldn't show up for him I guess. It was very good to use except that I probably should of slackened off the tension a bit as it tends to get tiring. The other thing I didn't like about his was he only had the short handle, which JUST clears the door without swivelling it up so it was good for jumping in and out of the ute (I went shooting by myself for 2 nights shooting from the cab) but your arm sure gets tired reaching up to it and fighting the tension. I have used an old home made one he had for a ute I bought off of him and it was much better because your arm could rest on the window sill while using it. Just remember to swivel it up before opening the door!!!
  6. G'day I'm from Adelaide and like to go plinking and knock off rabbits and foxes for farmers that I know. But I definitely want to go pig hunting and goat shooting as well one day, just haven't got the contacts yet!!!
