  1. As you said glass lens are hard to find the 1s i have are "stalker" but are no longer made and yes they were an Aussie made product in S.A. As for spotters im not sold on them personal opinion. But just go into any shop and they should have a fair selection. As for colour all mine are cooper and i have no prob in hunting or fishing 1S1K
  2. Mate nice lookin Blades but there only there to do 1 thing dress an animal as far as im concerned KISS (keep it simple) so in that thought the 6 in butchers boning knife and skinner are all that gets packed in my kit aww 2 small excalaber folders. If you drop or loose them no big deal they dont cost the earth and can be bought just about most hunting stores. As for an edge well i guess it comes down to the knowlage you posses. 1S1k
  3. Back to TAbz statement about the use of his light. Some words of advice read and understand the rules and regulations regarding any and all game you wish to hunt. As fines are steap and fellow hunters unforgiving. I know there is some talk around my local area from a smallish group of people that have had enough of the inactivity from the respective authorities so they are out patroling and taking details of cars and shooters they feel are in the wrong and forwarding them to the police. So make sure you know the rules and regs RE any game you hunt 1S1K

    What Knife For U?

Mate go the Butchers knife any and every day if you can work the @ss of them in a shop/boning room then the average punter will have no probs in the feild. They sharpen well and hold good edges and are not to hard to touch up on the run. The only down side to these knives is that sheaths are a little hard to get but any leather worker saddler should be able to knock 1 up. So a pros side of this topic is keep it simple and straight to the point Victronox ,F-d1ck and swibo are three good 1s to keep in mind 1S1K ((0))
  8. Lachy as for the last part of your post in MY pro apinion as abutcher for 15 odd years you are doing it backwards. Hone the edge you want with a stone then the diamond steel then a super fine / fine steel as for the ceramic steel they are expensive for a good one and not worth the time nor money (IMO). But that is what i do and will keep doing if you can sharpen and keep it sharp then i can not argue. Now to the original post get some 6in boning knives from the butcher or king of what eva and a LITTLE BEAR stone go home and destroy them with hours of practice and when you think you have it right do it again as there is nothing worse than using a blunt edge 1S1K
  9. Yer Etrex Legend great little unit has a few hassles in realy thick timber but nothin to bad. A peace of poop to use just play around and you soon work it out. Read the manual though. It has just about every function that i need and i have no worries in recomending them 1S1K ((0))
  10. Mate if the bike is to be used out bush stick to the Honda range XT and XR both these bikes are tough look at the older 350s as they have that little bit more also even the TT from yam is a better choice than the klr IMO 1S1K ((0))

    Gut Hooks

Will work Phill but are a bit harsh and can really wear the steel out pretty fast 1S1K ((0)) P.S just a note if you tape the first 15-20mm of the knife point with electical tape then the chance of punturing the stoach is greatly reduced

    Gut Hooks

Hey Bull get a piece of dowl/tube that is the same size as the gap inbetween the hook get some fine-med wet n dry sand paper wrap around the dowl/tube and push away from the edge. Its not the best method but it will get it sharp at home in the shed, and will not cost a small fortune. 1S1K ((0))

    Hunting Knives

Bushy by the sound of it both those choices have a hefty price tag. If you are after a good "working" knife get your hands on a couple of butchers knives the two types that i use are the standard 6in boner and the 6in flaying knife. You should be able to get the pair of them for about $80. Now if butchers and slaugts use them day after day they can't be to bad, just stick to the good names(F-D!ck,Swibo,Victronox,dexta russels) Two draw backs of these is that sheaths are hard to get and the are not a heavy knife so trying to go through bone instead of around it may pose a problem. But they are reasonable to sharpen and hold an edge.Just some more info to mull over 1S1K ((0))
  14. Yes JL it kinda F#CKS up ya day when a cowboy decides that the brand new blade that you have just given him will look better with a hot rolled edge that can only be fixed with hours of hand work. Not to many boys stickin to the trade these days i myself am going to "retire" shortly. The trade is to rapped up in red tape these days and the old school butchers are not liking it. Mind you im only 32 but 15yrs of body neglect have had there toll 1S1K ((0))
  15. Quote "Well mate i can tell you both Fizza and myself are qualified buttchers (can post trade cert up here if you like) and sharpening a knife is something that you must learn yourself. Like alot of things you can be shown or instructed in the fundamentals but you will come up with a way that works for you," As the name suggests also a butcher and have been in both shops and on the chain in abs. In the time i have been in the trade i have shown more than a dozen kids(aprentices) how it is done and they all take a different aprotch to it. I have had two appys of my own and both can put a better edge on a knife than me (and mine are f$#kin sharp) It is only lazyness that these guys dont/wont sharpen other knives. I have only ever had 1 person that i will trust with my blades.Stone choice i have only ever used "little Bear stones" they are a dry stone and i always use a mix of water and soap. As far as the topic goes i think that the double bladed f-d#ck stiker is the way to go i have seen these used in pro pig rooms and hold very very well in all areas of there design 1S1K ((0))
