  1. A mate of mine moved from WA to QLD and took his entire collection with him. He checked it out before leaving here and found he had 3 months to change his licence over once he moved into a house. It took them 3 or 4 months to even find a house. Once they did, he did the paperwork and it was all sorted pretty easy and quick.
  2. Apparently there is a 6 year phase in period, so we can keep using the old 40 channel units for 6 more years.
  3. Here you go mate: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/ultrafire-wf-008-recoil-thrower-cree-q5-wc-230-lumen-led-flashlight-1-18650-2-cr123a-22934 I'm not sure about the one you posted the link to. Looks interesting though.
  4. I'd forgotten about this thread. I converted my SL170 some weeks ago now and it is WAY better than it used to be. And that is saying something, because it was an excellent light before. It was definitely worth the conversion. :D :D
  5. Yeah. BB I well remember the days when I could "Skip talk" to people in Newcastle or Sydney from Perth and on a good night I could talk to Kiwis too. And it would be as clear as if they were one street away. Before my Uniden XL520PRO I had a Pierce-Simpson Cub. That was a great little radio.
  6. Very true. Sometimes I hit the scan button or manually go through all the channels and it is a rare thing for there to be anything on more than about 2 channels. Generally the road channel (CH40) has chatter and maybe another one and that's it. I mostly just leave mine on channel 40 anyway.
  7. Remember when the old AM CB's went from 18 channels to 40? The first 18 channels of the 40 channel units were the same, so people slowly changed over during the following 5 to 10 years. I have a perfectly good 40CH Uniden AM unit sitting in its box somewhere here. Barely used too.
  8. I hadn't heard about this. So will it be possible to upgrade older model CB's? My Uniden is about 5 or 6 years old, so an upgrade of it would be preferable to replacing it.
  9. GME mate. I have a little 3dB (60cm) and a 9dB (about 1.2m) for long road trips. When swapping between them I really notice the extra range of the taller one. But the little one is fine for daily use. It is good enough for a range of about 5km. The bigger one is good for nearly 15km.
  10. I have a P4-250. Good torch too, except the sliding focus doesn't stay set. It would be much better with a twist focus.
  11. I have one of these and can happily recommend it.
  12. Pics never do them justice do they? You should have noticed a marked increase in light output. Did you?
  13. Sounds like a plan Brendan. Especially since you didn't make it to the last one. Sneaky suggested the gun club as a possible venue a while ago.
  14. Really? I was in there last week, but never thought to ask about filters. I have to take my Ruger in for Doug to work on, so might ask then.
  15. I wonder why it is that in every LGS I have looked in, they only ever have the red filters. http://www.lightforce.net.au/products/accessories/filters
  16. Yes, there's a threaded brass insert in the base of the handle. You have to cut the cable to the light and fit bullet terminals to the light side and cable side. The remote handle has a pass through cable, so you connect the cable from the light to the top side cable of the remote handle and then the incoming power cable connects to the other cable out of the bottom of the remote handle. The bullet terminals are part of the kit. There is an on/off switch on the handle too. If you don't want to use the support-a-light, you can take it all off and re-connect the light direct to the power cable. There are two remote handle kits, a short one and a long one. Make sure you get the long one, called the RC225. The RC150 is too short for the Support-a-light.
  17. Something else you can do, although I haven't tried it yet, is to adjust the focus of a Lightforce spot light to a wider beam, rather than a tight spot beam. That should help too and give a wider beam to search with. One thing I don't like about the red filters is how much light they take away. I had the idea of drilling 2 or 3 1" holes in the filter to let a bit extra light out. But don't want to ruin the filter doing it if it isn't going to work. Anyone else tried this and what was the result??
  18. I have an SL170 and a red filter and used it a few weeks ago to spot light bunnies on a mates farm. It worked just fine, although we were shooting subs and the range was only up to a max of 60-70m.
  19. I've just ordered one also. I figured I might as well go ahead and upgrade the SL170. It is the light I use most, because it mounts on my Support-a-light kit. The other light doesn't.
  20. No, no other parts needed. The light was $15 from my local auto shop. The HID kit with 2 ballasts and 2 globes was $69 from ebay. It is ok to use, but does get a bit tiring after 2 or 3 hours. So not bad I guess. If I had it to do over, I would go with a 6000k globe though. I chose the 4000k globe, thinking the yellower colour (similar to a halogen globes colour) would be less likely to startle animals. But lets face it. With the light output equivalent to 3 100W quartz halogen globes, the colour of the light is no problem and the colour of the 6000k globe (very white colour)is much easier for me to see with.
  21. Here you go Assailant. 35W HID ballast driving a 4000k H3 globe, fitted to a $15 Auto shop spot light. It's punching out a lot more than 700,000 candle power now!!
  22. I did buy a cheaper kit. The other one in my post. However, while it worked well with my other light, it is TOO chunky for the SL170. I am about to buy one of the other $130 kits for mine. Don't be hesitant though. an SL170 with the HID upgrade will easily out power a standard SL240. An upgraded SL240 will beet them all though. I'm much happier to upgrade an SL170 though. I find the SL240 too big. The SL170 though is a nice size and with the HID upgrade will be "brilliant". ;) I'll find a pic of my other light, post HID upgrade.
  23. What pattern globe? H3?? Or are you after a ballast? 95Soarer has replacement Ballasts for $32 each. I haven't seen any globes advertised as yet.
  24. Good stuff Sneaky. I bought one of those double kits they sell for converting car head lights and used one ballast and globe to convert one of my hand held spot lights. It is a fairly chunky light, so I was able to mount the ballast on the light and can still use it hand held. I was going to use the other half of the kit on my SL170, but am now looking to buy one of the other SL170/240 specific kits instead. The SL170 is very light and the added weight of a large ballast will upset how it handles, hence my idea of going for the smaller lighter kit. I have bought 3 kits from 95Soarer so far. 2 kits (4x ballast and 4x globes) are fitted to my Falcon. The third is the one mentioned above. The oldest kit is about 2 years old and still going strong.
