  1. I get my hunting boots from Aussie Disposals.I wear Trail single leather upper boots.I had the only dry feet after a day of hunting in the drizzle on the first Gatta trip. There were a few guys there that had some fancy US hunting boots, and all had wet feet.Make sure the boots you choose don't have to many stitched panels,as that is the first place the water will get in.I think my boots were $140 when I got them.
  2. When I was living in Healesville,me and some of my friends had AM CB set up in the house so we didn't have to use the phone. It saved a fortune in phone calls, because the wifes could rabbit on for hours to whoever for free.It was like call conferencing some nights. And all without having the need for the latest and greatest in communication equipment.I would still buy a 40 channel UHF,as they will still be able to be used after the 80 channel comes in.If you are talking to a hunting mate or between vehicles, then you only need 1 channel.
  3. I think that is the Model that Damige was trying to get a large order deal on last year, but gave up the idea when he heard of the channels being upped from 40 to 80.I would still have liked one,as my Uniden 2 watt radio only seems to work when it wants to now. But at that price,I may have to buy 2 tins and some string.
  4. I ditched the GME aerial that came with the unit after a few years. It was a 4db,but I think the aerial was either not fitted to the cable to well,or the cable was not as good internally as it should have been.It was ok for some things, but I would sometimes lose contact with the group I was travelling with over a small hill.I decided to upgrade to a RFI aerial, and chose the CD5000.This has been an excellent choice.I have no problems with communication, and last weekend on the Wonnangatta trip, had communication with all vehicles spread over a 15km range.
  5. Hi.The .22 is good for serious hunting, but depends what you are chasing.

    Knife Making

That's a fare effort for a belt sander AH.Don't think that I have ever seen one like that, and I have seen some good ones in the past.

    Exquisite!

A simply stunning knife. The damascus blade is a work of wonder, and the handle material matches in perfectly.
  8. Being a greedy person,I have 2 motorbikes.I am into dirt bike riding,so I have a gasgas ec300 2t for the purpose. And for getting deeper into hunting areas,I have an xr400.No mods to the bike, but plenty of torque to take me and a load of venison back to camp.Mate has an xr350,and we have found that we can get into some really good areas, and in alot less time. Also a great way to experiance the high country.
  9. Yep,call me when you want the money. Can you order me an external mic as well, might get a slightly better deal that way I hope. Thanks mate
  10. Buy a butchers set.If it is good enough for them, then it will be good enough for you to.
  11. Has anyone tried the Rusa boot by Stoney Creek? They had a boot in the fish tank all weekend, and it stayed nice and dry inside. But still doesn't mean they are tough yet comfy.
  12. Bit hard to put on with some explorer socks.Might get mighty cold feet hunting the high country during winter.
  13. Stay away from steel cap work boots for hunting.I get my boots from Aussie Disposal.I have been using the Lace up boot with the vibram soul for a couple of years now,and they are good, and waterproof.I used them in the Wonnangatta for a week this year, and my feet stayed dry, when others wearing American hunting boots got wet.One hunter(Dan) even had the soul come off his boot.
  14. +1.I started with Barska's,and they are hopeless at low level light conditions.I upgraded to the Nikon Monarchs, and they are heaps better. Also, the Steiner Pro Predator is 8x32 is an excellent binocular, with plenty of fans on this site.
  15. This is a common method in New Zealand, and works well when doing a big climb.I would stay out of black berries though,as I can't see the thermals giving your legs much protection from the pointy bits.
  16. Nikon Monarchs 10x42 get the tick from me.
  17. Aussie Disposals.I know,I know.I have a pair called Trail. They have the Vibram sole, and are waterproof. They are a single piece of leather,so no panelling for the water to leak through. It takes a big rainfall for them to get wet inside,or a river crossing
  18. Nikon or Stiener still for me.If you see the difference between the lower end bino's and something a little bit more pricey during the falling light, then you will see value for money. Most bino's will give you a good picture during normal daylight hours, but it is low light conditions when a good pair of optics come into there own.I learnt the hard way,by buyibg a pair of Barska for +$250 a few years ago.I have since got the Nikon Monarchs and couldn't be happier. When looking through bino's,you want a pair that gives good low light performance, are clear and not fuzzy around the perimeter, and comfortable to use.Go to a gun shop and have a look between the lower end stuff and the top end stuff. The difference is worth the extra
  19. Steiner predator pro 8x30 or nikon monarch 10x42.Not seen the Bushnell, but told they are crap.Have the nikon myself, very very good, and looked throught the steiner last week( farm property)and very very good. Not in the same bracket as Leica or Swarovski, but then what is.
  20. I thought the explorist range was made by magellan?
  21. A good hunting boot should be comfortable and robust. If you hunt on steep hills, then something with a good ankle support will be needed. All leather upper in 1 piece is required if you hunt blackberry country.
  22. Never heard of them, but 20x80 is ####n big.I have 10x42 Nikon Monnarck's,available through opticszone.Steiner's will get a good run on this post as well.
