Hey pig slayer, Having tried many different boots over the years (Blundstone included) I have settled on Merrell. I have found these the most comfortable boots for hiking, hunting and general rugged ware whilst being very durable. In fact mine have lasted just over 5 years with wearing them 60%+ of the time, I would say they have approx two years left in them but would need to have the sole replaced within that time. Pos: - Water proof - Durable - Comfortable - Middle to high cut, so provides ankle support and protection - Made from good quality leather - Quality Soles also Neg: - Within 2 years the edge of the soles tend to open where they are glued to the leather (or this happened on the older model boots), easy fix with RTV rubber and they stay water proof and then outlast other boots. Hope this helps.

There are two sorts (at least) out now... one are advertised as wool blend - these are the thick ones we all have warn and loved. The others are the cheaper ones and, although they are also wool blend, they are much much thinner! They also bare the same packaging as the original ones. They charge like a wounded bull any way, you'd think they should be of quality still!!!

From what I understand no... but you can with a form from the police station. Don't know what form however.

Hey paul, I can recommend the lightforce 240Blitz from personal experience... very bright, light to hold (only does catch the wind a bit due to its large diameter), and has adjustable focus. Are you using it from a vehicle or battery pack, 240 is only good from a solid power source. Expect to pay $136 for the very cheapest I think doubleRcustoms has them in SA, but probably more like $165. IMO: Even though I own a 240Blitz, the 170 is also a very good light and is only $108. Powerbeam are supposed to be a very good light too but are a bit heavier... note they are also tuffer.

After a fair bit of testing of the maps mentioned in this post I am happy with Shonky Maps and will keep them as my preference. Highly recommend it to anyone after quality maps for their Garmin. Cheers for all who commented.

G'day guys, Well many of us are seeing the light and purchasing a GPS... well that is often just part of the picture, there are all sorts of maps available which suit the differing needs of the user. Here's the thing - stating the area it is best for as well as the unit make and model, which maps have you found to be the best and which the worst??? Being a bit short of the dosh, I recently purchased a Garmin Etrex Legend and have tried a few of the free maps available: * SHONKY MAPS... Pretty good although doesn't have the very fine detail of many fine tracks - still the best I have found! * TRACKS4AUSTRALIA... OK, but missing the finer details. Would like to see how detailed Garmin's maps are but gee whiz they cost a bit! Cheers

Sounds great jock, am sure you'll be happy with that one! I just purchased a Garmin Etrex Legend new and it cost me $105 on eBay. Will see how it goes when it arrives but it should work well for my hunting/off road needs and it was within my budget! I also noted how to get free mapping software - 'shonky maps' and 'tracks 4 Australia' are both highly recommended but still require mapsource to upload it to the Garmin.

I had a look at there site for the first time and noted they can't post any dies and reloading gear overseas - or at least that is what I read. Is this true or have others had a different experience?

I've been thinking of the possibility of a motorbike battery adapted to be mobile... just a thought.

I use a wüsthof sharpening steel and am very happy with the German quality.
