Matt_22
Currently considering the purchase of a GPS tracker for emergencies and communication in remote areas. Does anyone here run a Spot or a Delorme? Interested to hear your thoughts on either unit. I like the idea of being able to send a message to selected persons in the event of a minor incident / break down or to just check in. Any info greatly appreciated. Cheers, Matt

Some people seem to run into issues with the Rhino, I’ve never had any issues with them
balltearer
PLB`s are fantastic if you use them. The fellow in the article from 2015 carried one but didn't activate it as was to be found out later. https://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/news/Extreme-Northern-Territory-heat-killed-CQ-hunter/2834231/ Another fellow hunting with PM broke his leg a few years ago and the PLB was kicked into gear and a chopper found them and winched the bloke out of some rough country. http://www.budjik.com/equipment/beacons/plb/kti-safety-alert-plb-with-free-pouch.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwkpfWBRDZARIsAAfeXarYD5-Lit_fEVgZfvd29wVXV_00YwMkHIiv3lCvmRCfR-tOVy20eioaAnQMEALw_wcB
Sandhands
Used an older model of the Spot for work a few years back. It could be set to send a built in an SMS message to a mobile number with the units GPS coordinates (via satellite) if the holder didnt press a button to "Check-In" at whatever interval was set up. We were able to do away with multiple sat phone check-ins per day. From memory it could send SMS or request emergency response based on failed check-ins and/or the holder pressing the SOS button for a few seconds. The web portal for setting it up was straightforward and was good value for money for that application. It was used 7 days a week for a few years in pretty harsh going, heat, dust, getting dropped and knocked around but didnt miss a beat.
