Hi, I have started hunting again after a long absence from it and now I get to hunt feral deer aswell as rabbits and foxes. I am thinking of taking up bow hunting but have discovered the nearest archery club is over 80 km away so if anyone can give me any info on equipment to set me up for a start mainly chasing after rabbits and foxes but one day attempting to bag a deer any advice would be grreatly received. Cheers. Phil

Hi, im 21 from Adelaide.

Recently got my licence with a couple of friends who have been shooting since they were kids, and have mainly been hunting rabbits down at Murray Bridge.

Very keen to find a property in the Murray Bridge area or anywhere about the same distance from Adelaide where we can visit to hunt ANY pests that around around (obviously mainly rabbits/foxes etc), so if anyone knows of anywhere, please message me or email me at jeff3002@gmail.com

Cheers,

Jeff

Hello everyone,

I'm Danny, age 28, currently living in Adelaide (southern suburbs). Its been about 10 years since I was last shooting, but I've got my license application in and I plan on getting back into the sport. I'm looking to get into pest/feral extermination with a focus on the rabbit & goat shooting as I enjoyed so much in my youth.

(The back story).

I grew up in the Riverland on 30 acres of citrus, so there were always rabbits & sparrows to shoot. My Dad was very into shooting and I developed the interest from him. Apart from shooting rabbits around the block we did a lot of goat shooting with family and friends on stations. I had a lot of fun shooting, but I have never been interested in trophies as such. My interest has always been in pest extermination, and the marksmanship of getting clean kills via a head shot so the carcase could be eaten. I always got high marks in the Air Training Corp rifle range events.

Back in the day the weapons of choice were a Ruger 10/22 for rabbits & a 243 for larger prey.

My goal was to buy a Ruger Mini-14 (223 semi auto in a matt stainless finish) when I was old enough to get a firearms license. Unfortunately there was a very sad event that happened in Tasmania which stopped this and reformed the Australian firearms laws. Combined with going to Uni in Adelaide & the change of scenery/life style/accommodation I disregarded gun ownership for quiet a while.

(The present).

My best mate & oldest friend has recently had the offer of shooting goats on a station up north & he is working to get the invite extended to me. So now seems like the time to get back into the world of shooting.

I’m also looking to get involved in which ever organisation is invited into the national parks to cull feral animals. I believe it’s the SSAA (of which I am now a member) but if anyone has any more information or contacts I would welcome them.

I’m also looking into future firearms purchases, but it will require some research before I rush in. A good 22 & maybe a 243 are looking the business. As always thou I'm open to suggestion.

Hope you enjoyed the story & I look forward to getting to know you all.

Danny

Hello to all

I'am a farmer in the South-East not far from naracoorte. Grew up on the farm and have been hunting for as long as i can remember. Hunt most things but fox hunting is my main interest. Just arrived home to settle down after travelling, boarding school, working interstate to take over in the last 18 months.

Have a collection of hand me downs guns of most calibres and a couple of shotguns, being a primary producer i was granted a C class license so my range is a little broader than most, just bought a tikka T3 in the .223. Had a ruger .223 but having it live behind the seat in my ute for far too long put a few too many scratches on it (although always shot very straight) so thought i would upgrade and buy a bag for this one. Just bought a staghound pup as my old man had them when i was growing up and provided years of good hunting and companionship.

Having a young child nowadays restricts my time for hunting trips so mainly do it at home where there are plenty of rabbits (including black ones), foxes and deer, day time and at night with the spotlight.

Look forward to reading all your stories and getting to know you all.

Cheers

G'day Digger!

I am not the pheasant plucker,

I'm the pheasant plucker's mate.

I am only plucking pheasants

Cos the pheasant plucker's running late.

I am not a pheasant plucker,

I'm a pheasant plucker's son.

I am only plucking pheasants

Till the pheasant plucker comes.

I am a mother pheasant plucker,

I pluck mother pheasants.

I am the best mother pheasant plucker,

That ever plucked a mother pheasant!

I'm not the fig plucker,

Nor the fig pluckers' son,

But I'll pluck figs

Till the fig plucker comes.

Fire arms of all sorts, great stuff.........

G'day

I live in Mount Gambier and I am 56, I haven't had guns since I was 18 so I thought it was time to get back into hunting.

I went to apply for a licence the other day and I had trouble believing the rigmarole the wholloper told me I had to go through to get one. Anyway i'll get one and then get back into hunting again.

Trev.

G'day,

Chris here, grew up in NSW hunting and fishing around home ,but spent the last 30 years hunting/fishing in the NT, now living in the Adelaide Hills, but go back to the NT whenever I can for the hunting/fishing. Get out fishing a bit, but hunting properties are hard to get onto in SA. Hunted in most states of Australia, New Zealand and even got yo hunt in the UK for Roebuck and Muntjac.

cheers
