What are people thoughts on backpacks (day packs) whats a good brand and is it worth getting the hydration bladder aswell.

What are the genral items you would carry in them say for a days hunt apart from food & Drink?

Huntech 25L Daypack with a 1.8L platypus hoser reservoir.

In addition to food and water, I carry; topo map, compass, GPS, UHF CB, binoculars, Leatherman super tool, ammo wallet, digital camera, first aid kit, head lamp, lighter, fire starter, note book & pen, spare batteries for GPS, electrical tape (barrel), cloth measuring tape, Game Licence.

G'day all,

I like a bigger pack, 'cause the smaller ones with the bladders seem to shift on my back. I find that a conventional backpack with water bottle holders on the outside seems more stable and fits into the curves of my love handles better.

I also find that with a bladder I tend not to stop as much to look (which is a fault). I like to cover country.

Of course the choice of backpack is not as important as the ability to carry one. 5kg is still 5kg

cheers

Hassie

Drew, I was just wondering why you carry electrical tape for the barrel, or do you mean a barrel of leky tape. Sorry for my ignorance if this is a well no practice

Hi Stagchaser,

While out hunting, especially in scrubby areas, I put electrical tape over the muzzle of my rifles. This prevents unwanted foreign objects going down the barrel, which can be damaging and/or dangerous during firing. The tape gets blown off during firing. I then reapply after firing.

I haven't missed a game animal yet with a steady shot and tape over the muzzle. Taken pigs out past 200m, no problems. Most of shots fired are less than 50m anyway. However, I did conduct a range test with electrical tape on the barrels of the 223 and 30-06 with no noticeable change in bullet impact at 100m.

I just had to buy a new bladder for the back pack as my kids thought it would be a good idea to have a tug of war with it. I gather 1 had hold of the tube and 1 had hold of the bladder and ripped of the tube where it connects to the main bladder.

Little #### heads :D:D:D
