Rono
I am in need for a new sleeping bag and need some opinions I have got a dome swag and an old sleeping bag which is good for summer but i intend to do a few samba trips next year in winter. My question is that swags hold in the heat pretty good and was woundering what rating of sleeping bag i should get eg (2 to -5) I dont like the tapper style as i am a fairly big. Much prefer the straight style.
timber_man
my brother uses a -5 sleepn bag in his swag and we rarely hunt in the snow though it does get cold where we go 0 to -

Slinger
Rono, I bought a Coleman Big foot 300 last year before winter (-5 i think). Lots of room and very toasty, with or without the swag. I kept the old bag for the warmer months the colemans just too warm otherwise. Cheers, Slinger. Rono
G'Day Slinger & getadog I went for the rowman they where only $90 on special so i dont think i can go wrong. It will only be used in the cooler months. Like you my old sleeping bag will do the job in the warmer months ronoif you don't mind spending the money some of the paddy palin bags are unreal but very pricey getadog i dont mind paying alot of money for sleeping gear it is well worth it. I am not sure what is expencive in the way of sleeping bags. I have seen them -6 for $300 and the will fold up to the size of your palm but as size and weight are not a problem with me i went for the heavy style. Thanks fellers for your input
Juniorhunter
I went for a Roman Big Man Hood, its unreal it has a -5 rating, and is fine for me in a tent up in the high country, santa is gonna bring me a swag i think so it should be even warmer in that
Laser Bullet
Rono, I've got a -3 I think, good enough for me. But what really tops it all off is that I have a half gortex/half nylon bivy bag that I can slip into when it gets really cold and it also lets me breathe. Great to just use the bivy bag only on warm summer nights when the mozzies are bad too.
