I carry a hand-made knife, and after 35 years hunting, and learning a trade in the meat industry, the knife below would easily be the best knife I have ever owned.

and one of these, probably the best knife steel you can buy,

C'mon guys, its the 21st century. Its called GoreTex. Raichle make a kick arse comfy, totally waterproof, breathable walking boot, along with many other brands. Go to a hiking shop - Mountain Designs etc. Or you can wear lace up gumboots, coz they look really comfortable.
If you're just walking around in damp grass and want to keep your toes warm, go for it, but GoreTex isn't going to make a lot of difference while crossing creeks up to your knees or deeper..... As for Bullers, don't knock them until you've tried them.

The most popular boot for north island hunting over the past 35 or more years would be Bullers, just burn a hole with a hot wire in either side in the instep and you're away. Minimum care required, and they last for years!.
Skellerup Buller Lace Up Gumboot
Ankle height lace up rubber boot. Water proof tongue gusset. Heavy duty cleated sole.
Ankle length gumboot.

Apologies, I meant to add that info but I've been laid up with with pneumonia. The link to the manufacturer is Huntech, you should be able to get all the info about the gaiters from them, and I reccomend you buy them from Ross at Outdoor Supplies. Listed prices are less GST (12.5%) and then a bit more off for the exchange rate. They are a damned good product, and there is plenty of other good stuff to look at on Ross's site.

Thanks for the link Kiwi...
Hope you get well soon, buddy...
Thanks for the kind thoughts,
I am on some antibiotics that would make credible 'WMD's' and starting feel better, but this damned sweating is driving me nuts permanently cold from evaporating sweat!!!
Warm barrels.

I just bought a pair of gaitors from a NZ outfit run by a friend of mine,
http://www.outdoorsupplies.co.nz/
Kneehigh Gaiters $89
These Knee Hi Gaiters have a quiet outer lined with water resistant canvas. They have heavy duty zip and domes to keep them closed and a toe hook to hook into the laces. Picture shown in Bushland Habitat.
Sizes: M, L, XL Code: 316
Colours: Green, Bushland Habitat & High Country Habitat
I wore mine for a 5 hour wander on very hot and steep hills the other day and they were great. I was unsure about sizing so shot in the middle and got size L, and they fit like a glove.
NZ price listed is includes GST which is not payable on O/seas sales and then another reduction for the exchange rate, quite a good deal.
These are "Well made New Zealand".... a bit like me really!!!!!??
Cheers,
