  1. Ahhhhh, so 45pound is a tad UNDER the actual cost. They should just make it 50 pound then. Anyways, I dont really care, its a business and they state the price if you ask.

David, could you give me (via PM if you wish) some more info on the CCD setup? I would like to try if its cheapish/worth it.

The only reason why I would like it is because looking through a scope lens makes one eye sore.. maybe a eye patch will work haha

Oh, I attached (hot glue) a tripod mount onto the base of the scope. So now I dont have to hold it. Maybe get some better photos from it.

  2. Im not to sure about the ebay guys postage. He did try to sting me an extra 10pound (55pound total postage). I wouldn't just believe what he tells you.

I realised something last night with my NV scope. I can see ALOT better if I treat it as a rifle scope and hold my eye a few cms away from the ocular and "peer" into it, just like if I was taking a shot. Before I was basically touching the thing.

I wonder if there is a way to attach a DV camera so that you can then watch a screen for a bigger view. I want to look through it for so long I get a sore eye hehe

  3. If I can handle the electric fence at Gryphons place im sure I can handle a measly 50,000 volts haha

I think ill leave it alone, thanks for the heads up ;)

The pic was taken with no moon, but I also changed the aperture to let in less light as it was very bright when looking in peoples windows...... Just kidding! It got a bit bright with the street lights behind me so I changed it.

Ill try it out in the forest with NO external lighting ASAP.

  4. David, is it ok to cut away some of the rubber surrounding the viewing screen on the tube? I may need to get the ocular lens in a little more to get better focus.

I tried a pic last night.... but i was very unprepared! I was using my phone to take the photo AND I had nothing to rest either my phone or NV scope on so it was free hand.

Thats the best I could do. Ill try again over the weekend with a proper camera and use my car bonnet or similar to rest it all on.

  5. Thanks David.

Painted it black, sitting in the garage drying. Im going to fix the battery to the tube via a valcro strip. Ill post some pics up later.... although it just looks like all the others, some black tube with a few bits sticking out.

The image quality was quite clear, I could see blades of grass. It is very impressive. Even if I bought this from a shop I would be impressed let alone a backyard job.

I had the scope pointing out the car window into a park and it was very dark, the rabbit had no idea i was there.

The extra zoom was good but I lost alot of field of view. I will keep a lookout at seconds shops and eBay for a nice lens to fit.

I would love to get a photo of a fox/rabbit or even better a deer. Ill give it a shot this weekend.

David, when you power the unit down the screen slowly dims until there is no visible glow. Is this an ok time to turn the lights on? or should I wait a few minutes more?

  6. I just tested mine out. Works fantastic! A better lens would be nice though. The ~70mm one does not zoom enough so I will have to use the larger lens (about 170mm) but that is F2.8....

Its clear sky tonight and there was a bit of street lights so could see easy. Will try it in the forest soon. Didnt take any pics of image. I was watching a rabbit hop around from about 20m from the car which was cool :)

I was also watching something a little more interesting, but until I get some pics ill keep it hush.

Whats a few things I can do to make it better?

*change the toilet roll spacer to PVC?

    *Paint PVC black?

What a wicked contraption. Thanks guys :)

  7. Thanks David :)

JUST finished it... well the major bits anyway. I had the tube the wrong way, easy fix thank god. I went into the garage and tried it out. It def works, I could make out the car..... but the focus is out. Testing it in the garage is almost impossible though as everything is so close. Now I goto wait till its dark... damn you day light saving!

I attached the lens adapter to the PVC with 3mm bolts and nuts. I had to grind each bolt back so the lens would fit, but a dremmel made short work of it. I then put a dab of epoxy on each nut so they dont come lose. As you said, hot glue would be good too or lock tight. Just used what was closest to me at the time. Very secure with bolts/washers/glue combo.

To center the tube I used foam surrounding it at either end.

Will find some small diameter PVC from work for the spacer, in the mean time a toilet roll will do.

Once I get the focus right ill take some pics and post them in here. If I can manage some that is.

  8. These are the pics.

The pic below is from the FRONT, where the 35mm lens goes?

The pic below is from the REAR where the viewing screen is, which has a rubber surround?

Last night I had these the opposite way around and it didnt work...... I THINK it should work now. Just need to re-attach the 35mm lens adapter as the epoxy glue doesn't stick to PVC and it fell off. Lucky it fell off on the table so it didnt damage the lens. Ill try and find some small screws or something.

  9. Thanks for the reply david.

I guess you could call the buzzing sound a slight whine. Def turned it on in complete darkness! At night with ALL doors closed and no lights.... I even left it dark for a good half hr before I turned the lights on after I powered it down..... I reckon I have it the wrong way around haha Ill go back over the notes.... the way I have it now is where the positive and negative power is, is the bit im looking through..... and the lens is attached to the rubber end of the tube....@ss about? :/

  10. I put it together, although the lens distance is not right. I fired it up and....... not much haha

I can hear a small buzzing noise and there is a slight green glow from the lens side... but nothing at the ocular end.

When you power the tube up with nothing else attached what should it look like at the viewing end? Mine stays blank while the other end glows green :/

    Not enough battery power?

    Grrrrrrr

  11. Can someone give me some advice on some potential parts I have at home?

One is a old ZENIT 35mm camera. It has two lenses, one is F2.8 (the lens on the right in the pic) and one is F2 (left of pic). Which would be better? The one with the higher F rating is larger, would that provide more zoom? or is zoom determined by the ocular?

I also have a couple of scopes im willing to sacrifice if possible. One is a Bushnell 3-9x40 (bottom in pic) and the other is a niko stirling 6x40 (top of pic). Are these ok to use and if so how do I go about using them, do I need to cut them in half?

    cheers lads
