  1. this turned out not to be the case. the local comms shop didnt have the particular adaptor i was looking for (this was not #### smith or anything either... a proper comms company, uniden agents, etc) though they did offer to make up a patch lead.. instead have ordered this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SMA-F-to-SO239-for-...=item4cec9141b3 as much as i dont like using evilbay
  2. uniden at470 aerial arrived today.... but the lead that comes with it does not fit the uniden uh078sx.. turns out 'mobile' and 'handheld' are not the same thing. so i need an adaptor to fit it in.. sma to pl259 i think
  3. last week i bought a pair of the uniden 6db antennas from an ebay seller (rrp $95 on uniden website, $35 including postage from ebay seller) but is yet to arrive (and supplied tracking number doesnt work) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=310190057482
  4. yeah both units were definitely on high transmit (5W), i checked that when we finally met up. im going to need a bigger aerial... is it a special type of connection or are they all standard with 2ways?
  5. im still quite upset with the performance of these top of the line handheld units that retail for over $400 and fail to reach 2km range in flat goat country... is it worth spending some dollars on an external antenna to make them usable or cut my losses and return the unit and spend the cash on an in-car unit? do all aerials fit this model? (i have no info on the particular connection type, other than it is threaded) http://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/p_uh078sx_index.asp
  6. ok so i need some help/advice on this unit. i went out on the weekend for an overnighter, had planned to meet some other guys out there and call them up on the 2way when we were close (pre arranged mud map).. the 2ways (both myself and a member of the other party have this exact unit) turned out not to be particularly reliable because the range was limited to less than 2km in flat scrub country. because of large thunderstorms the guys who arrived early made camp in a sheltered area 2.5km from the designated camp site thinking we would radio in and they could give directions. hence, we never found them and spent the night camped out in the open and alone. is 2km too much to ask for a 5w handheld unit like this that is worth a small fortune? im very disappointed with it, now wishing id spent the money on an in-car radio..
  7. i recently bought a fenix tk12 and barrel mounted it, used it on the weekend.. has the same q5 as epitome's but runs on 2x cr123a or 1x 18650... any torch with similar specs would be perfect
  8. ive just recently picked up one of these as well... took it out on the weekend for the first time. its a little ripper of a unit, the dual charging station is nice - you drop the unit in the charger and the spare in the charger at the same time and charge both batteries at once... also a cigarette lighter adaptor would plug straight into the charger for in-car charging.
  9. the factory HID's on my honda are simply brilliant... id never want to buy another car without them. +1 for epitome's conversion suggestion. HID's are the way to go
  10. well ive ordered a fenix tk12 after reading a good review from someone who bought one for hunting purposes on whirlpool.. im hoping it arrives this week before i go out for a shoot next weekend.. will report back on its value
  11. yeah its a bit finnicky isnt it... you have to go -->merchandise -->accessories and the p7 is in there... does that $105 price apply to non-members?
  12. ok well if dx is just as good an option as the real thing im happy to go that way.. cheap enough anyhow. anyone used any of the dx torches? how do they compare to led lenser p7's and the like? i like this review on the universal mount: ps. led torches australia havent replied to my email... so perhaps it is more hassle than its worth to get them both together
  13. thanks for the link, i had looked there, but they dont advertise a barrel mount for the p7... seeing as though you guys recommend their service i might email and ask them if they can get one
  14. id like a p7 which can be barrel mounted.. i see them for sale on ebay from uk sellers, but i cant for the life of me find a local supplier (ebay or otherwise) id prefer it not to be ebay purely because i hate ebay/paypal... but whatever
  15. ive got 3 in our 5 gun buffalo river... all with scopes and all in their bags (safe is in a cellar under the house, the thought of humidity in my new 204 scares me)
  16. gday.. im rob, 25, from geraldton. ive just been linked to this site by epitome whom i know from another site and am glad to see there is a good aussie site in existence! ive got a 17hmr marlin 917v and a savage model25 laminated thumbhole in .204ruger. i really enjoy getting out chasing the ferals but dont get the chance to do it often enough. heres a couple of pics.. a few foxes taken with the 17hmr from a nearby farm early this year http://exclusif.cc/web/normal_DSC01840.JPG and one of the goats i took with the 17hmr out at the murchison on a long weekend in autumn.. i havent had the chance to shoot anything with the 204 yet, sighted it in a month or so ago and the crops were so high we couldnt see a thing.. so am waiting until after the impending harvest has cut things down a bit
