250Kg Safe

In queensland you only have to bolt the safe down if it weighs less than 150kg.

NSW too.

150 KG or more doesn't have to be bolted to the structure it's housed in. Adding the lead ingots is a good idea..

250 KG is not only heavy but it must be a big safe.

In Vic it's 150kg. And that must be it's empty weight.

Adding the lead or steel into the bottom of it is only legal if it's made a permanent part of the safe, ie welded in.

Thats typical government short sightedness.

If your going to lift it,it'll be too heavy whether its welded in or not.

And if your going to open it, it wouldnt matter whether it's welded in or not.

Or am I missing something?

Stupid as it may be, the government make the rules and the government and it's delegates (ie, the local police) are the ones who inspect the safe to make sure it complies.

My plan at the beginning was to get the weight, bolt it in and then build a false floor to "hide" it.

It then becomes a permanate part of the structure and still looks neat.

However I've found it's easier and much cheaper to buy a couple of bolts rather then a 110kg's or so of lead

Hi Ruby, end up getting your safe?

I recently got a Sentry which weighs in at around 250 and no way I'd be bringing it inside it will have to stay in the under house area on concrete. I do however have a few fish tanks and one thing I did before I bought a house was use car axle stands under floor boards if the tank was particularly heavy. So that might be a good way of going.
