  1. I wouldn't. If you're like me, you have too much money tied up in your guns, to warrant skimping on the safe. Why store $5,000+ of guns in a "safe" that isn't? There's an old racing saying that goes, "If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet." I think a similar line could be used for gun safes.
  2. I haven't looked at the EDI-T web site for a while. I notice that there are several new models. They look good, however they all have push-pull focus. I much prefer a twist focus, as the push-pull focus gets knocked too easily.
  3. I have no complaints at all about battery life in the P4. Mine last very well. I ordered an Eagletac T100C2 MKII last week, so will be able to compare them once I receive it. As Fenring said the P4 on full focus has a very tight bright square. In fact it is focused tight enough, that you can even make out the individual elements of the LED. My only real criticism of the P4 is that it has a sliding focus, which can be knocked easily. I would prefer it to have a screw in, screw out focus like Mag lights have. It wouldn't move so easily then. The P4 makes a great general purpose torch though. Pull the focus ring right back and you get a strong, bright flood area. Which is great for opening and closing farm gates at night and other uses around a camp.
  4. No. I have an EDI-T P4 250, but haven't got either of the other two to compare with it.
  5. Kind of Sneaky. I'm looking for work in the mines up north as a FIFO worker. I have an application in for a job right now. I've had enough of my current job, after 8 years of it. I'm over the cold southern winters too, so I'm looking for a change of scene up north somewhere.
  6. Welcome aboard mate. I live near Manjimup myself and have been here for 8 years, though not for much longer. I'll be moving back to Perth soon. I shoot on several properties out east of here towards Mt Barker.
  7. It depends a bit on the situation. I prefer to scope mount on my rifles. But, I have barrel mounted my torch to my Winchester shotgun.
  8. So it has to be anchored at two points on each of two separate surfaces. Not necessarily the floor. Of course unless the safe is in a corner and anchored to both walls, one of the surfaces would therefore have to be the floor. Although it does open up extra possibilities for anchoring the safe. The really stupid part in my case was that the cops insisted I use coach screws in the wall, even though the house has metal wall studs and coach screws are designed for timber. I told them I used Tek screws for that reason. They insisted I use coach screws. So I added coach screws along with the Tek screws I had already fitted.
  9. Just for added info. In WA we must bolt our safe to both the floor and one wall if under the weight limit, which I think is also 150kg. I had mine screwed to a wall stud initially, but the plods told me it had to be bolted to the floor as well. So I added two dyna bolts there as well and two extra screws into the wall stud. They were much happier after that.
  10. I have a Lightforce Support-A-Light, which looks similar to the unit Dungbeatle has. It works great and can be moved from car to car.
  11. I have a Fuji Finepix S5700 7.1 Meg stills camera and a Pentax MZ-5N 35mm SLR. But I don't use the Pentax any more. I also have a Canon MD120 miniDV and a Samsung VP-D381 miniDV video camera. Both of which I picked up off of ebay very cheap. The Canon was used, but in very good condition, while the Samsung was brand new and still in its original packaging. It was an unwanted wedding present. I wasn't looking to buy two cameras, but I bid on three at the same time and won two of the auctions. LOL
  12. I had an email last night to say they are going to refund my money. I'm very disappointed, both in them for their clear lack of service and in not being able to get the torch. I might leave it be for a while now. edit- I just had another look on the DX site and they are still advertising them and have them marked down to $25. When I ordered one at the beginning of Feb, they were $28.
  13. Well I am still waiting for my torch. A couple of days after I ordered it, its status went to "Back Ordered- waiting for more stock". I posted a query on "order tracking" in "my account" on 15/2/10 and haven't even had a reply. I just wanted them to tell me when they would have them back in stock. So I went on the DX web site last night and cancelled the order. I'll see what happens now. If they don't refund my money soon, I won't be going anywhere near them again.
  14. Hi Doug. We're in the same neck of the woods as each other. Just so you know. Don't type in capital letters. It indicates that you are shouting.
  15. I have an EDI-T P4-250. It has a 250 lumen CREE LED and push pull focus. It runs on 3 AAA batteries. It is a great little torch, but the push pull focus can be knocked off of focus fairly easily. At full throw, it has a very tight beam and you see a very sharp outline of the square LED. It is a great combination torch for multiple duties. I have one of the Ultrafire WF-008 230 lumen Recoil Thrower torches on order from Deal Extreme. It is on back order at the moment. This will become my gun mounted torch and the P$-250 will become my backup torch. I also have a few of the nylon flashlight mounts too. These are in addition to 3 Mag Light LED torches. 1 of the 3xAA, 1 of the 2xD and 1 of the 4xD cell models. The little AA one lives in the glove box of the car. The other two are for around the house duties.
  16. That's right. Deal Extreme are in Hong Kong.
  17. Well, I have now taken the plunge and ordered one. It cost $31.47 once converted to Oz dollars from US dollars. We'll see how it goes.
  18. I was looking at this exact torch on DX a week or two ago and wondering how it would go. So now I do and it looks pretty good. I was looking for a fixed spot beam torch to mount on either my .22 Anny or 17HMR Stirling or even my 22 K Hornet Ruger. Now I'm even more interested in it. Thanks for the wrie up and pics Fenring.
  19. The cable from the ballast to the globe, as well as the ballast itself, are fully sealed. So you should be safe. The amperage will be minuscule, as the power draw of the ballast is only 35 Watts. So at 12 Volts it is drawing 2.9 Amps. On the output side is only something like 0.0015 amps at the fore mentioned 23,000 volts and 35 watts.
  20. Welcome aussieric. Just so you know mate. Don't type with your caps lock on. OK.
  21. Awesome dude. Well done. You're obviously happy with the result.
  22. By going the way I did, I basically got 2 kits for the price of one. So I could convert 2 spotlights for the cost of one of the "Lightforce only" kits. I'm guessing the "option 1" kit has a globe designed to fit the Lightforce lights. I paid $82.40 landed at my door for the HID kit and $64.50 landed at my door for the Lightforce globe conversion kit. So the total was $146.90 and that will convert 2 spotlights.
  23. The thick lead you see on my light that comes out of the ballast box and goes into the bottom of the handle is the lead from the ballast to the globe. You can get 500mm extension leads off eBay fairly cheaply, which could be used to keep the ballast remote from the light. However, bear in mind that there is approximately 23,000 volts flowing from the ballast to the globe. By doing it that way I was able to keep it all self contained. You could go that way if you wanted to. Just buy the extension leads. I'm not sure though if there is a maximum length they will work at.
