  1. Yeah. I'm looking forward to trying it out too and comparing it to my Lightforce SL170, which is yet to be converted.
  2. Ok. Here's a couple of pics of Frankenstein! I just tried it out and it lit up an entire gum tree over 200m away. Remember this is a 35 watt 4300K HID kit. The beam is a bit too wide now. I might try putting a washer or two under the globe to pull it back a bit and focus the beam more.
  3. I'm not surprised. I have gone the opposite way. I converted the headlights and driving lights on the car and am now converting my handheld spot lights. I completed the first one today. I did the cheapy $15 auto shop light first. I think I'll name it "Frankenstein". LOL I'll try it out tonight. I tried it in the shed today and in broad daylight it was very strong. I'm not going shooting tonight, but will see what it's like after dark. The conversion was fairly straight forward. I'll take some pics and post up later.
  4. I had a look at a few on ebay a while back. But I worked out in the end that freight would kill any price advantage, compared to my LGS.
  5. My kits arrived in the post yesterday. Hopefully, I'll be able to convert at least one of the lights by this weekend.
  6. Thanks for the pics and feed back Rob. The pics definitely show that the Eagletac does generally speaking out perform the Wolfeyes.
  7. Sounds good Hurls. Your torch is made be EDI-T and is almost the same as mine, which is the P4-250 Headhunter made by them: http://www.edi-t.com.au/products.html
  8. Bunny at 12 o'clock!! So far so good. I'm looking forward to your other pics, when they get posted up.
  9. I just bought the H3 globe adapter kit and a 4300k 35W HID kit from ebay. I'll be converting both my SL170 and my cheap $15 Auto shop spot lights. Fortunately the cheapy light has a 55W H3 globe in it. So that means I can convert it with the HID kit and using one of the two H3 adapters, I can also convert my SL170. Not bad for $55 for the adapter kit (with 2 adapters in it) and $70 for the HID kit, which has 2 globes and 2 ballasts in the it.
  10. There always has been, even on the old AM CB's. I think it has something to do with the range and the requirement to license anything over 5 watts. The Gov't dept that controls the radio frequencies basically works on the notion that any output higher than 5 watts gives a high enough range that you are required to have a license for it. Who set that level in the first place, I don't know. Back in the AM CB days people used to use booster boxes to pump out 10 watts or more and they got ranges over 50km. Of course they would be prosecuted if caught.
  11. I have an SL170 and it is a great light. However, I use mine off the car battery and have it mounted to a Lightforce Support-a-light and RC225 handle, for in vehicle use.
  12. My little handheld UH036 UHF Unidens works over a range of around 3-4km over undulating ground. However, my in car UHF Uniden works over at least 7-8km with a short 90cm whip and about double that range with a 180cm whip.
  13. Here are some pics of the AK47 Bayonet: That isn't rust on the blade, it is the original factory preserving oil.
  14. Here's a couple of pics I loaded onto photobucket a while ago. I'll have to take pics of the rest.
  15. I've got at least that many, if not more. I have a few Winchester, Colt, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Leatherman, Victorinox , Ford, Dodge etc and a genuine 1960's USSR issue AK47 bayonet/knife. The bayonet is interesting as it has a metal scabbard. The knife and scabbard join together to form wire cutters. I also have a WW1 British army issue bayonet for a SMLE. It was given to my dad by an old lady he used to work for years ago. It had belonged to her late husband. So to answer your question, no you you can't have too many.
  16. I always wear standard slip on work boots. I have worn Blunny's, Rossi's and Redback's. They're all very similar and are great for what I do. My favorites are the Blundstones though.
  17. I have a EDI-T P4-250. It is awesome. It has a CREE Q5 LED of 250 lumens and runs on 3 AAA batteries. I have just ordered a scope mount for it from them too. The torch is $79 and the mount is $15.
  18. That is very true len. I was thinking in terms of having a single vehicle out in a back paddock or similar situation. In that case if you need to call for help on an AM CB, there will not be anyone on the other end to hear you.
  19. The eye colour should stay the same, I think. Halogen globes are usually around 2500K to 3000K. HID's start at 4000K and go up from there all the way to 10000k+. But the 4000K and 6000K HID lights are best.
  20. I agree with the others. Except to say forget about AM CB's. They are old school and were great in their day. But no-one uses them any more. If you had one and needed to call for help, the chances are that there wouldn't be anyone there to here you. I have a really nice Uniden AM CB and pulled it out of the car and replaced it with a UHF Uniden CB. Where AM CB's were great was for long range. I used to "skip talk" off the ionosphere right across the country to the east coast. But back in the early 90's everyone had an AM CB. I could turn my CB on during the evening and there would be 2 or 3 conversations on every one of the 40 channels except for the emergency channel (ch9). Then mobile phones started getting cheaper and the AM CB disappeared.
  21. I don't think so. No more than standard halogen globes do. In fact the searingly bright beam might even disorientate and confuse them more.
  22. Here's the complete kit as per my option "one" above: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HID-KIT-FOR-LIGHTFO...=item27acb7709c For option "two": Here is an adapter kit for the SL170: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Lightforce-170s-Spo...=item2557938e33 And another one: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Lightforce-Upgrade-...=item2ea84f1535 A 35W HID kit from the place I got my kits from: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT If you buy the adapters and a kit like the one above, you could convert 2 spotlights.
