  1. 65 litres aint small.Does this pack have elastic cordes that reduce the physical size of the bag when empty? The 65L packs I have seen are for hiking.
  2. Look for one that allwos the addition of a drink bladder.I use a stoney creek day pack, and on long walks use this in conjunction with a ridgeline 5 pocket bum bag.The day pack is only 15 litres from memory though,so here is a tip.If you carry a pillow case and about 2 metres of rope, you have another bag for carrying out meat when you need it.How much you intend to carry depends on what pack is right for you.
  3. I just recently got the Nikon Monarcks in 10x42 from the states.Cost was US$310 plus postage.Gryph has stiener predator 8x30,cost at the moment is $225(or there abouts). For deer hunting it is important that you get a bino that is good in low light conditions.Try some dealers and see if they have any brands that you are looking at in store.Spend as much as you can.My first pair weren't much chop.I bought them without knowing any better. They are barska 8x42.They are fine during the day(like all are),but fail miserably in low light conditions.
  4. No harness yet Rono. The neck strap is a little long,so a-shopping I will go to get one.Any suggestions.
  5. Barska 8x42 on left(black) and the new Nikon Monarch 10 x 42(realtree camo).Had a look through the 2 pairs in low light conditions, and the Nikon's were superior. They are crisper in low light, the tree leaves appeared to show more brightness, and seeing into the tree trunk at approx 200 metres gave me the opinion that the Nikon's are money well spent.Cost for them $350.Includes a $10 tip.My mate also bought the same bino's,and did all the ordering,so was not to worried when he only asked for $340.Ordered through opticplanet.
  6. Finally have my new bino's.I went for a pair of Nikon Monarch's in 10x42 camo.Want to post pic(for evidence),but my wife is out with the camera in her car. Will post when she gets back. Will go out now and compare them to my Barska's.
  7. The pair of Rocky's that Gryph refers to that he sold me are Goretex and remain dry through dew soaked grass and high country ice and snow.No pair of boots are going to be waterproof when you are knee deep in a river. As for socks,I have found `holeproof explorers. When wet, they will remain warmer than sports socks.
  8. www.thesportsmansguide.com This should cover you for your needs.
  9. I have ordered some from theopticzone.I chose the nikon monarchs in 10x42.Cost is $310(i think). Were compared against a pair of Lieca Geovids, with only minimal difference in low light conditions. For the record, the Lieca's cost a bit over $2000.Depending on the time of day you intend to hunt, and the game you are after, will also need to be takn into account. For sambar hunters, the 10x42 is heaps, rabbit hunters can go for something much smaller, while goat hunters may choose something as big as 12x50.
  10. I have a ridgeline 5 pocket bum bag,and a stoney creek DAY HUNTER back pack. The back pack is easier to carry,as the weight over the course of the day isn't noticed as much, but I have found that if I carry the pockets pointed forward on my bumbag, then it is a lot more comfortable, and my back doesn't ache like it used to.
  11. I am lucky in that I make my own gun safe from 3mm mild steel.I have made heaps of them now,and sell them for $350.They hold 6 rifles, and have a separate internal storage for ammo.I currently have 3 sitting here waiting to go,so if you are interested,PM me.I am located in Boronia,Vic.
  12. Buy yourself a powder dry top.I have been using one for a while now.It whicks the sweat away from your body,so you stay dry and warm.I wear it all year round.
  13. Either the stoney creek website,or the ridgeline site is a good place to start.Haven't tried the ebay stuff.kaderles outdoors does some good stuff as well, and he is in Victoria,so the shipping costs will be cheaper.
  14. I had a look on their site gryph, and liked what I saw.I am almost at a decision, with the steiner preds 8x42 up there, the Olivion's and burras.Pity about the eye cups not being standard.I have 7 weeks of night shift coming up,so they may waite just a little longer.
  15. There seems to be a jump in price from 8x30 to 8x42.I was looking on Cabela's as well, and they were about the same price.Would be interested to hear how sambur goes with his bino's.
  16. I am looking to buy some new bino's for sambar hunting, and have my eye on some steiner predators 8x42.They go for $799 on binoculars.com.This seems to be a good price.Any other suggestions before I make my purchase.I have seen them in a shop, and they have also been recommended by a site member on a previous occasion.
  17. Don't pack the dvd player just yet Balty, haha.
  18. Like the boots, but the convo is a bit worrying, haha.Heath Ledger,Brokeback Mountain, and a new pair of boots. What about the custom 7mm.Could be a doozy of a campfire with Balty's portable dvd playing the entertainment, haha.
  19. That is what I do with my Rocky's gryph. My problem is that I don't like to have cold feet,so they don't get much of a run during winter. They are a fantastic boot,as you can testify to,with heaps of good grip.
  20. I have apair of Rocky goretex, and they do the job well.I have also got a pair of Trail water proof all leather boots from aussie disposals. They are chalk and cheese. The only prob I have is that thick winter socks won't allow my feet to fit the rocky's properly,so hense the second pair.I am impressed with the rocky's you have bought rono. They will do the job for you.
  21. I use the Day Pack from Stoney Creek. It has 15l capacity, and is able to take a water bladder. It is a good size for me,as I also wear a Ridgeline 5 pocket bum bag. This way I don't need to drop the pack every time I need something, and can keep food and other things close to hand.
  22. Stoney Creek just had a good deal going on the Sambar Jacket,$250 for either the olive or the camo.So 3 people I know bought them over the net.Very warm jacket, blends in with the surroundings of the high country well, and is quite warm. They can be opened up down the front after a hard trek up the hills,to help cool you down again.I wear something similar,a Buck Country Camo jacket.I would also advise that you get a powder dry top to go underneath. There is nothing worse than hunting hard, then getting cold from the sweat on your back,as you sit down and glass.Mate shot his 26inch stag while wearing his new sambar jacket, maybe something in the name. Look at www.stoneycreekshop.co.nz They have just finished some of there deals, but have a section of specials that gets updated each week. The conversion rate also means that you save some dollars.
  23. Check the specials on the stoney creek site.Thesambar jacket is marked down for the next 7 days.Mate just bought one a month ago.Loves his jacket, wore it in the gatta last week, just spewing now because he missed the discount.
  24. Interesting that this topic has come up,as I am looking to get some new bino's.I have barska 8x42,but they are next to useless in low light conditions. After a phone call with another sight member,I am going to look at the Steiner range.
