stalker 15
This week my dad and I made this knife. Dad used an old file end and grounded it down to a sharp blade. We then cut some wood out and shaped it into a handle, glued it to the blade and here's how it turned out. It will be soon used to skin and gut our animals. Sneaky
Looks like something you would find in prison Speaking from experience I can tell you they are MUCH better than that in prison. That said it's not a bad effort for a first attempt, using an angle grinder isn't always conducive of the greatest finesse Don't let anyone drag you down Stalker, you get in there and make a few more mate, good to see. NeilJack
I made this last week it is the first one i have ever made, its made out of a chain saw blade a piece of kiln dried hard wood a block of alloy and a couple of stainless steel rods, it took me 10 hours to make and i used a 4inch grinder a few different files and some scotch bright to polish it im keen to make more but cause it takes so long would like to know how to harden the steel. Nicely done mate, here's a link to some info with heat treating: http://www.knifenetwork.com/workshop/index.shtml I've made a few knives and have recently invested a chunk of change to make more. If your serious about making a few top notch blades then buy some steel, rods and woods from the akc: http://www.knivesaustralia.com.au/supplies.html If you'd like to make more than a few I'd reccomend going thru the texas knife makers supply in the US : http://www.texasknife.com/vcom/index.php For heat treating tool steel can be done at home with a forge and oil but most high quality stainless requires a proper heat treating oven as you can buy from the US. It's cheaper in the short term to use hills heat treatment services in Melbourne : http://www.hillsheat.com.au/ theyve been professionally heat treating knives for years and I can reccomend. I've made knives for myself and user "Lucky Phill" and am currently making knives for a few other aushunters who have helped myself and buddies in our hunting endevours. It's great fun getting out in the shed putting in some effort and being proud of the result. Heres one I made recently, RWL-34 steel 416 stainless guard and butt red morrell burl handle.
