  1. I was a little concerned about this when I upgraded my spotty. So I bought a 4500K HID kit and the beam is on the yellow side of white. Enough to notice anyway. It is less yellow than the old Halogen globe, but not a stark white light like the 6000K HID's I have in the car.
  2. As I have posted elsewhere on here it is a very worthwhile upgrade. I upgraded a basic $15 auto shop cheapy to 35W HID. BTW a 35W HID throws out 3 times as much light (3300+ lumens) as a 100W Halogen globe. If that is not going to dazzle an animal, I don't know what will. I bought a kit off ebay for $69 which came with 2 sets of 35W globes and Ballasts. I used one and the other is in the cupboard as a spare. There are pics of this spotty on 2 or 3 other threads here already. Just to demonstrate how much light HID's produce. I have upgraded the secondary main beams and the Hella Rally 4000 FF Compact driving lights on my BA Falcon. They are so strong now that a few weeks ago, while driving on the Vasse Highway between Nannup and Busselton in WA, I lit up a road sign from a GPS measured 3.5km down the road. The outboard headlight units run +50 H4 globes. So at full power on high beam, I have two 60 watt halogen and four 35 watt HID globes burning. Did I mention I'm driving across the Nullabor in October for a wedding in Dubbo?? Oh and one last thing. The HID's produce perhaps a quarter of the heat of the halogen globes.
  3. I haven't tried one of the Lightforce specific kits. I bought one of the normal 35w kits and converted a $15 auto shop cheapy light and it is much more powerful than my SL170. The globe is a 4000K globe. Here it is:
  4. I have a 55w spotty and I'd say my P4 is more or less as bright and is better focused than it is. My 100w spotty though is well ahead of either.
  5. Considering a 35 watt HID throws out 3 times (about 3600 lumens) the light of a 100 watt halogen globe, yes I would say the upgrade is worth it.
  6. Yeah I heard there is another colour, but not what it is. Blue or green??
  7. I only have one filter and it is a red one. I mostly don't bother with it, but if they are particularly jumpy the red filter helps. But I have no trouble seeing 100m with the red filter. I'm guessing you might have an infra red filter, not a red filter.
  8. It did depend on who you were dealing with. If a good cop, then 28 days exactly. If not, then anything from 28 to whatever.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Interesting nic name you chose. You might want to change it if you don't want a lot of razzing by the other members. I'm not sure how long it is currently taking, it has been hit and miss, since the new system came in last year.
  10. I believe that is the P4 like mine. You can't really compare a good 100 watt spotty, like a Lightforce, to a torch though. Apparently a 100 watt quartz halogen globe puts out a good 1,000 lumens or more. The trick is to be able to properly focus that light. So a 250lm torch isn't going to beat a good quality 100w spotty. But with a good enough reflector it will not fall far short either.
  11. Cool. Which one are you getting Alex?? the P4 like mine?
  12. That's good to hear mate. They are a cracker little torch aren't they? Strap it on your 22 and go bunny busting!!
  13. $65 from ebay. I did buy a figure-8 mount from Kizlyer knives for about $15, but have found the cheap nylon mounts from Deal Extreme are better and only cost $2.16US each. I bought 4 of them. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12000
  14. The P4 is good for 100+ meters. I have used mine out to about 140 to 150 though.
  15. I have one. The P4 model. It is a great little torch. It runs on 3 x AAA batteries. Some don't like that and others do. I do like that. They last well and are cheap to buy. The torch pumps out 250lm of light and the beam can be focused to a very tight spot. I bought mine off of eBay.
  16. Illumination gear is the site to go to for the Eagletac, while Dealextreme is the one for the Ultrafire. You can get cheap (but effective) nylon mounts off of Deal extreme also. I'll post a link to the nylon mounts I'm referring to, later on, once I get home from work. DX Nylon mount
  17. I ordered a WF-008 back in Jan and after several weeks with its status showing as "back ordered", I canceled the order and got my money back. The torch was listed as "In stock" at the time of placing the order. I then ordered the Eagletac from Illuminationgear in the US and it was here 7 days later. Others on here have bought and received the WF-008 since than, so I guess mine was an isolated occurrence. They are both excellent torches and both nicely compact too. So they are both well suited to rifle mounting.
  18. Yeah 300 sounds a bit short, although it might be correct. Most of these torches though can have their LED's replaced, so the X21 is probably the same in that regard. If you want one for your 22, just buy an Eagletac T100C2 mkII or buy an Ultrafire WF-008. They are both cheap and both work very well. Better yet, buy one of each.
  19. haha Mate he was joking. You said you use your 223 to "Call in" foxes. He knew what you meant, but was having a joke. Have a good trip pig hunting mate, I hope you have a successful one.
  20. Welcome mate. I love my Rugers!! If I had more money, I'd have only rugers, but finances haven't allowed that.
  21. On my cheapy light, there is no adjustment. My SL170, like any Lightforce spot light, is adjustable. I could in theory, put a spacer of some sort under the globe on the cheapy light. Perhaps a washer or plastic disk. This would pull the globe back and concentrate the light more. It might even remove the gap in the beam.
  22. is still looking for a new job!!
