Recommended Posts

G'day fellas

What brand or who makes a good quality leather belt.

Im sick of facken broken belts and buckles.

i need to be able to fit different buckles on it as well as its going to be the one and only belt i own

why don't you get some para chord and lace one up like Phil did?

You could one of those leather craft places to make one for you and have them lace the buckle flap rather than riveting it so that you can replace the buckle if it fails by unlacing the flap and changing over the buckle.

Another way is to get them to use Chicago screws rather than rivets. Dingo can do that, see their Rimfire Belt: http://www.dingogunproducts.com.au

Or there are a couple in the Hellweg range that use snaps, look at the 72 and 72L, http://www.hellweg.com.au/pages/products.html

Neither of these will be cheap, though.

For all of the bits and tools to DIY, Lefflers in West Melbourne have the lot, http://www.leffler.com.au/

They have 'belt lengths' in a variety of colours and widths for very reasonable cost, and a good range of buckles and hardware.

Making a belt only needs a few basic leatherworking tools, unless you want to get fancy with stitching or embellishments [stamped or carved patterns etc.].

It can be done with an edge beveller tool, hole punch, Stanley knife, cutting board and ruler.

kentsaddlery.com.au

I get all my leather done there, check out the hobble belts.

My latest is a 1 1/4 inch bobble belt with integral knife pouch, which I had them change to fit a Leatherman Surge for an extra $15.

I'm working here in China ATM and wearing it in the workshops, the chinese guys here are going absolutely nuts because all their stuff is just bling bling and they just want one. It's half a weeks wage for a skilled chinese engineering worker though.

All you need for a perfect mail order fit is to give them your jeans size in inches, and they will be a perfect fit with a few holes either way (depends on the seasons!).

I haven't seen them take more than two days to get something to me in Aus.

Custom takes a few more days.

And check out the Leatherman pouches to fit belts you already have. Ditch that horrible security guard/paratrooper look.

RMW belts? Everyone's got one of them.

I got a black and a brown one of these from Sheplers in the US...

http://www.sheplers.com/Mens/Mens-Belts-Buckles/Belts/Wrangler-Oil-Tanned-Leather-Belt/pc/1/c/21/sc/64/499.pro#BVRRWidgetID

Cost me under $100 including post, almost 1/2 what one RMW would have, and took a week to get here!
