boong, I do alot of solo hunting in the conditions you speak, i have a GME MT310 Epirb. Also the emergency number for your phone, if out of signal is 112. Im glad you bought it up, cos im after one too. The 17HMR isnt a long distance bunny popper, but the range finder will tell you the distance you are shooting at. They arent cheap either.

The newer models appears to be 100% better then the older models, i just bought one recently, it is BRIGHT. You can also adjust the size of the beam too. As far as reliability goes, i dont no anybody that has had any probs with them. So far mine appears to be worth the money.
