  1. I have the Ridgeline Mallard jacket that I am going to take to NZ,I'm figuring on layers and a decent set of merino thermals to be my best option on a budget
  2. Dri-z-bone isn't a good idea in sambar country unless it's got orange patches on it.Looks to much like a deer when crouched over looking at marks or scat Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  3. Goats are easy compared to a sambar. Its the hair that will blunten the knife, remember that they walk through blackberries like you or I going through water. Once you get into the hide its not so bad, just thick and heavy
  4. Yep,but how much easier is a cow than a sambar
  5. I got the M2X-UT Javelot,1020 lumens and good for 810 metres according to the box.So far it's accounted for a few close range critters with 30m.
  6. I'm not up on the new stuff,but I did buy a Olight a couple of weeks ago that is a sh1t load better,but $200 isn't cheap
  7. What ever you get, make sure you keep it dry
  8. There is a leather shop on Bryce Rd in Mooroolbark, across the road from the train station
  9. The moroka packs are very good.I don't actually own one,but they are purpose built for backpack hunting, and Rob does all his own R&D.
  10. Pussies, just stick with the neck strap like real men and harden up
  11. I use a 0 rated summer hike bag inside my -5 swag bag, toasty warm and you will change in your pocket
  12. I think Doug has one,he calls it Adam,haha

    Finally

I admire people that have a clean work area,I don't.
  14. IMO,camo is best when it blends with the surrounds,a single duck has excellent eyesite,so you can imagine what a flock would be like. They don't see you from face on,unless coming low into decoys, they look down from above,so hide everything including yourself as best you can.Don't move until they in range and you are ready to get on them.If you don't want to buy to much in the way of camo, you can always buy a few lengths of hession from Aussie Disposals and paint it to match the areas you want to hunt.Either wear it as camo, make a hide from it or just drape it over yourself.
  15. I have one of the mega huge tents with the front mesh entrance way and 3 rooms. Its freaking huge, sleeps 12 according to the chart,we have had 7 in there comfortably.Takes about 45 minutes to set up and fill with bedding,we use the front entrance as our kitchen.Costs about $600,is a sportiva brand and has been good for us.We have used it in heavy rain and strong wind, and whilst it isn't an all seasons tent,it hasn't leaked.I think the only thing to break were a couple of the plastic clips that hold the tent out to the fibreglass poles, and they are replaceable.
  16. I thought it to be a cheap copy of a traditional Katana HJ.The original had a leather wrapped handle, the Tsuba was made with the owners mark and a design that identified the owner
  17. How long is it,length of blade and then length of handle.
  18. You've done a great job there Richard.I like the handle,it really stands out.The blocker is different from some of the other knives,I've noticed that a lot of hunting knives these days don't have one, possibly for aesthetics rather than practicality.
  19. Welcome and feel free to ask questions and share your experiances
  20. Giving these tops another bump.Perfect for the kids on a hot day, whether sitting around camp,in the boat or out hunting, they will stay cool and protected from the sun.Don't be put off by the light coloring,it is perfect for the Aussie bush, and your kids will appreciate the cooling nature of the airmesh top.
  21. Yeah mate,he wore it on the last trip.He loved it,kept him cool on those long walks, and he was quite happy to wear something with long sleeves and a collar.Got my butt whooped over the mozzies, but it wasn't from a lack of repellant
  22. Can be used for more than just hunting. With long sleeves and collar they are perfect for a day in the boat fishing,or staying covered on a hot day.
