Worm
My dad has been hunting (although not recently) deer for many yrs and has not once ever used any piece of camo gear. I am now interested in stalking a deer for myself and really like the look of all the gear you can purchase. Is it needed these days (for some reason) or is it more of a fashion statement (if ya know what I mean). Also, even if its NOT needed I still want to get some camo pants. But..... which pattern/style would be best for hunting in VIC forests? Normal aus army pattern or something more specialised? any help appreciated Lee P.S Realtree camo gear looks amazing
Rono
Anything that helps get you closer to the deer is a bonus and i recon camo clothing is well worth buying also good fingerless gloves and a face veil and a hat all in camo.. The stoney creek gear is great and also the ridgeline new sniper packs are great value for money.
Backlash
I am a big believer in good cammo, if you’re a good hunter. Meaning if you can stay quiet and track the game you will get closer than ever! I have a sent locked 1 piece suit, on the weekend I walked up within 3meters of pigs, and I know people who have done the same on Deer. There is no good camo gear on the Australian market, I travel throughout AU, NZ & USA regularly with work. I buy 99% of my stuff from America, and 90% of that from Cabela’s. Reason been the quality is tenfold on what we have to offer. Over hear we sell clothes that have "mossy oak & real tree patterns" nothing that breaks up your outline, the few gilli styles suits I have seen available in Australia are rubbish, plastic leaves on some meshing, or polyester!! Boo to that... In the pic I am wearing a 3 dimential sent locked suit made from cotton with an activated carbon inner liner, comes with hoodie and face mask, + boots and gloves all sent locked. I can eat an onion breath through the suit and no sent comes out at all meaning no animal will smell me, they say this in the advertising, I was sceptical until it worked over and over for me. Don’t get me wrong, as I said at the beginning it’s not going to make a bad hunter a good hunter, what it will do is help a good hunter get closer than ever. If you want the best gear on the planet buy your gear from Cabelas http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...entId=cat470076 This is the particualr suit i am using http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...&hasJS=true Edited May 5, 2008 by Backlash
sambarstalker7MM
I wear about 4 different types of camo, depending on the area I am hunting, no one type can do it all. Auscam for the aussie bush is hard to beat as a one to do it all, but I also use hardwoods green for when the bush is wetter (Autumn/ spring), Hardwoods brown in a scentlock and wind block for the real cold #### during winter when the bush is dark brown from being wet. Also have some Auscam desert cams for summer hunting, they work real well. In all cases cover your face and hands, its suprising how much it stands out. muzza64
Thanks for the link Drew....the gear looks great, and although I'm off to the states in 3weeks i'd consider the local product any day. Out of interest, what's your wet weather set-up? I've been looking at some shell wear, the RedHead® XPR Gore-Tex® PacLite® Rain Pants and jacket - the ones that fold up into their own pockets. I got pretty damp the other weekend up near Oberon, with intermittent light rain and very wet undergrowth. Appreciate your thoughts. Muz
Rono
I just got one of these from Cabela,s it is great and i can pull out the liner and just use that as its the camo patter as well.... Mossy Oak Jacket

Its a gimmick, your gf mightnt smell your OB but a bloody deer will cobber.

Mate im sitting down having lunch in that pic cant eat with gloves and face covered up + I was in a state forest hence the cap. But i do agree with your "wear a cap that shines like a mirror, dosent matter if its orange or camo if it shines it roots everything" comment When in Private property i am totally covered up, the suit comes with a hoody and face peice. The sent lock stuff works well, regardless of what you may think i have repetly got closer than ever + before i bought the sentlock stuff i googled it and found 100's of pople that swear by it. Don't bag it until you have personally given it ago. There is no aussie stuff they breaks up your outline, as the posts above show all clothes with patterns, nothing 3dimential to break up your outline. Anyway not here to get in an argument with you, but before you firing off negative comments prehaps you should think about what your saying or even trying the product in question. Just remember that your rifle, day pack and whatever else you have is not scentlocked.

True the animals could probably smell my pack, gun, and clothes, but i still think think its better than hunting in jeans n shirt. Im happy with it so i guess thats all that matters. dhfactory
I hunt in auscam type clothing, basic cams. There is a couple of fundamental points that alot of people don't pay any attention to. Everything is more important than what you are wearing. Stalking tacktics, when I stalk deer I use everything I can to get close and find them. I look at every piece of sign ( I can't walk past a pile of poo) I walk quietly, placing my heal on the groud first and rolling my foot forward. Lots of deer I shoot will be off to the side of me, Alot of people I go hunting with walk forward turning their head to look for the deer, this isn't going to work. You need to walk in arc's, this will help you to hunt your angles and stop you walking past game. Don't run around the bush and be just as surprised as the deer when you see them. I could take deer hunting in my undies, but it's too cold. Clothes that break up your figure and are comfortable and keep the black berries from scratching you are good. You need to use cover, you need to stay in the shadows and all the basic's. Basically, If the deer don't see you then it doesn't matter what you are wearing. I could be wrong, but it works for me. geoffro
the new ridgeline camo hunters pack is good value for money and it is made from micro fleece which is silent in the bush, i used to wear auscam ex military clothing but found the cotton pants make loud scratching noise when bushing past bushes
jindydiver
I love the Blackfoot gear. I wear the pants and an ASAT 3d top most times If I am hunting a more urban setting (or any animals besides deer) I wear 2d gear

Yep, As i said i think the most important thing is been a good hunter. I still think that good gear will help, like if you did a hunt in your undies and in some gear i think gear would be better. But hey i just like my gear. woo woo
