It must be "Knife Day" today or something! Very nice, John! Does this suggest you made it yourself?
  2. That wavy one near the top rings bells. Is that a damascan somethingorother? Dunno why that popped into my head!
  3. Just out of interest, what do you use them for, Matt?
  4. There was a big discussion on these not too long ago, Philski1. A quick search should find it for you - there was logs of good info from some knowledgeable blokes.
  5. Does he do bulk purchases....?
  6. The colour definitely will make changes to what you see. Its all about the wavelengths that our eyes see in. As in a yellow light lets you see "through" fog whereas a white one will bounce back and just give you more glare. And red tinted lights don't ruin your night vision as badly as other colours. Blue lights will "reduce" what you can see (scientific fact - but I don't know how to describe it properly). Not sure how it works but take a look at the next car you see with blue tinted headlights and you'll see how ineffective they are compared with other cars with white headlights. So the blue lense you have might be spreading the beams as well as having a blue tint.
  7. Thermals, Uncle Steve, not longjohns! And they wear shorts over the top. But if its cold enough to wear thermals, maybe that wouldn't happen with longjohns either
  8. Thanks Rono! Nice pic of your grandpa, by the way...

    Gps

Check out these guys www.ja-gps.com.au I found their service crap but their prices made it worth the minor frustration... Could be cheaper from O/S of course - this is just the cheapest place I found in Melb.
  10. Optometrists maybe? But Len's right about polishing removing the coatings.
  11. +1 Can't compare it with anything else of course - but its really easy to use and it finds my car for me...
  12. I bought a pair of Preditor Pro 10x40's just a couple of months ago so I think they're still around!
  13. I've got a pair of Rockport boots that I bought in the mid '90s (while in the US). They've hiked a few miles over the years (Aus, Nepal, and Kokoda in '05) and the gore-tex lining is still working fine. They're a high ankle boot because my ankles are cactus - and they've always caught me before I've twisted anything when a rock has moved (or whatever). They're looking a little tired now but still far from falling apart. I've looked around for a replacement set but have never seen anything over here. I doubt I paid as little as AU$75 even back then for them though!! I doubt they make boots like these anymore though! It'll be a sad day when they get retired. Might have to get them bronzed or something!
  14. Yup - checked today - definitely Lane brand.
  15. Dunno mate sorry. I'll take a look next time I'm in one (which should be soon).
  16. Sounds like you know your stuff, David! I'd be interested in seeing some pics even though your description is pretty good. Pete
  17. Given that we can use an old school locker as long as its fixed to the wall, then the answer is a definite yes. I should have written the brand down (sorry). But if I didn't already have one, I would have seriously considered on of these.
  18. Saw a gun safe at Bunnings yesterday! Digital combination lock, separate ammo compartment and room for 5 rifles all for $400. Not sure of the brand but it looked sturdy enough. Its titled an "executive safe"? Go figure! Anyway, take a look if you're interested. This was at the Moorabbin (vic) store on Warrigal road. Not sure if all stores will stock them.
  19. I hope the guy at the wrong address can make use of all the free goods he's getting!
  20. Gebus! Actually, i think I remember you mentioning that somewhere (sorry!). But GEBUS!
