Henno
Just remembered I also have a pair in British camo that go just under the knee. Don't know if they are snake rated though.
Henno
Sorry wrong button. The Brit one's are pretty heavy duty and from Aussie disposals.

gsp
gday chrisso,we've been using hunteck gaitors for years now. only problem was one press stud failed [out of three pair] easily fixed.easy to put on /hook up,keep your feet fairly dry,fit and wear well but not quite knee high. they have canvas inner and fleece outer, closed with zip and studs, hook to toe laces.there are some who reckon snakes stike high ,higher than the knee.i dont know personaly as i've not been struck at [that i know of anyway] but if you covered all possibles you'd cover from ankle to armpit...or stay home personaly i watch more for bees.this is one of those around the fire discusions,as everyone will have a veiw based on their own experiences and opinions.havent seen the moroka ones but if their like his other stuff they will probably good value, although dearer than others.good luck on your deccission .cheers
chrisso
gsp do you think they are "snake resistant"? the speciality snake gaitors are rediculously expensive. i think it was the moroka ones were $
gsp
i dont know if the huntec are"snake resistant" but i reckon that the canvas would be tough/thick enough to reduce the penetration a bit, add that to the clothing underneath and it would have to help i suppose....certainly not going to do a"field"test to find out...lol.the snake resistant ones i have seen are more for bush walkers where a bit of noise isnt an issue to them, they are made of a nylon type of mareial and are fairly stiff, but they do go up to the knee.just had a "measure"by eye and my huntecs would go to 4"short of my knee[i'm 5.10] so i'm only "safe"low snakes.a mate was grabbed by a snake a while back, back packing into the gatta and it hung on ,not sure if he had gaiters, probably not.but he wasnt bitten......but he did s,,,t himself and made a fair noise about his mate getting the snake of before it did bite him..lol.no idea what sort of snake or how big. give c&a canvas a ring in morwell ,thats where i got mine.they might have more of an idea.cheers
gsp
chrisso, have look at www.ozhuntingandbows.com.au they have snake proof gaiters and reasonable prices.from memory i've had my huntecs for 6 years or so and they cost $110.00 then, picked up at morwell.cheers. Fireman_DJ
Given the OP's lack of location information, not to mention for the benefit of others whom may read this thread. It might be a good idea to mention that Morwell is located in Victoria.
chrisso
Simple google maps search would have confirmed that mate.
Fireman_DJ
You can't assume that there is only one town "X" in the country. Granted that Morwell in particular is a rare name, my town has a "Dawson St", just like the next town over has a "Dawson St" (actually, both towns share several street names). Names do get used more then once. And for the sake of adding a coma and one word ", Victoria", it's a lot easier for others to know where you are talking about. Btw, I use an X52 on my computer. Want to know what the X52 is? A simple google search will tell you..... (Sorry if I over did it on the last comment mate, but you are having a go at a comment I made about someone else's posts and you're not a forum admin, so I really want to make the point). Well said DJ. Not sure about anyone else but made me chuckle. Back to the topic of Gaitors. I was walking the pups out in the bush he other day and seen a nice size brown snake which got me wondering. When ever I'm out and about (well 75% of the time) I'm wearing my cowboy boots with jeans of the top of them. A mate and myself got on talking and I mentioned I had thought about a buy of gators just to be on the safe side when I'm out by myself. But he seem to think I should be fairly right because my boots come up about a third of the way to my knee and most bites happening in that area. Now would my by boots be enough to stop fangs coming through? Or would a snake be able to get through them pretty easy?
optic
Watching them strike when they are unhappy makes me wonder. A pissed off snake has more than one go at the target. Not all the bites inject venom, depends on the snakes state of mind at the time. I feel somewhat protected with my gators just below the knee. Im also unsure if they would stop a penetrating set of fangs with its head turned sideways. Straight on, im guessing it would slip off. Who knows. Not something you field test to see. If i get the chance ill have Cam walk in front of me and try and watch to see what happens when he screams
Junglefisher
Have a look here http://www.avru.org/general/general_eastbrown.html The Eastern brown (pretty much the only snake I'd worry about) has fangs of 3mm in length. So you have jeans, boots and socks to create a total of what... 10-15mm??? There's no way a brown is going to bite you through your boots. ANY gaitor over the top of long pants is going to provide protection against Australian snakes, they do not need to be "proof" against the fangs. chrisso
thanks junglefisher, a little re assuring, i wouldnt be wearing pants, if its hot enough for snakes im in shorts. lol. i would never have thought fangs were so small, although ive never seen fangs close up. (probly a good thing). im thinking any gaiters that are thicker than say 5 mm should be ok.
